PLEASE READ THE RULES BEFORE YOU POST

You dig giant robots. I dig giant robots. We dig giant robots. But the question is... which robots do we dig the most? Therefore, I propose a contest, to determine WHICH giant robot is the Escapist's favorite giant robot.

Use whatever factors you want in determining what robot is your favorite. Whether it's the strongest, the biggest, the coolest, whether you like the pilot, the accomplishments it has, anything you want. This is a popularity contest more than anything else.

So, here's the basic rules:

1. You may nominate up to 3 giant robots. The basic way I'm going to set this up is that everyone gets to nominate 3 bots, and when the thread dies down, I'll tally up the votes. From there, the top 8 robots will each be a poll option in the Round 2 thread, and from there, we determine which one is the Escapist's favorite bot. If you nominate more than 3, I'll only be counting the first three you nominate. Conversely, you may nominate less than three, but nominating 3 is recommended.

2. Robots may be animated or live-action, piloted or sentient, so long as they're giants and robots.

3. For robots with multiple incarnations/generations/versions, please be specific with which version you are nominating. For example, you cannot simply say "Gundam", you must be specific with WHICH Gundam you mean. Similar examples might be "Megazord" or "Optimus Prime". Please be specific.

4. You may change your vote as many times as you choose, so long as you do so before I tally the votes for Round 2. For example, if you post, and someone else says a robot that you had completely forgotten about, feel free to alter your vote.

5. Pictures are encouraged to get your point across, but please follow common courtesy, and put all pictures/vids in spoiler tags.

If you do not know how to use spoiler tags, put this [ spoiler ] (without the space) at the beginning of the picture, and this [ /spoiler ] (again, without the space) at the end.

6. Since I know this is going to come up, I'm just going to state this now: Yes, Evangelion counts. I know that technically it's biological, but it counts.

That said, I'll get the ball rolling with my candidates:

Mighty Morphin Megazord

Megas XLR

Chicks also dig giant robots, or so I have been told. The ladies of the Escapist may have to confirm that for me.

Regardless, here are my nominations:

Deathscythe Hell
Seriously, there's not a single part of its name that isn't badass. Death. Scythe. Hell. JUST LOOK AT THE DAMN THING!

Runner Up:
Ohhhh I just love the Puma. So frickin' much. Double PPC? Yes please.

2nd Runner Up:
Personally I always liked the humble Goliath from SC and Brood Wars...especially in Brood Wars where the missle range upgrade gave them just slightly more range than the zerg Guardians. When it came to anti-air for my terran games, I'd look no further than the good ol' Goliath.

Oh boy here we go!
<spoiler=Front Mission's Zenith>The most canonical and famous wanzer from Front Mission. I prefer wanzers to all giant robots in general, since they make the most sense and actually look like something that human engineers might come up with.

<spoiler=Pacific Rim's Cherno Alpha>Cherno just kicks ass! What I really love about him is that just by looking at him you can say what kind of robot it is, a kind that gets close and beats the living shit out of you!

<spoiler=Iron Giant>Is there anything I have to say to justify this choice?

a) The Big O
It's Batman in a giant mech, with piston powered punches.
b) Iron Giant. Dat feels.
c) Are we just limited to "giant" robots? If not, Tachikomas. Specifically, Batou's personal one. Because, moar feels.

Small question: How humanoid do the candidates have to be?

Can a Quadraped bot be nominated if it has a humanoid body otherwise? What about Robots with humanoid legs but not a humanoid upper body?

Optimus Prime. There should be no other #1 in this category, period.

That's right, Dragonzord. Because it's a dragon that can be controlled with a flute dagger that sounds like a trumpet.

This one was a bit difficult for me, mainly because I had no other "robot" in mind. But, after some thought, Golurk is my number 3 due to his awesomeness.

Don't forget these!

And definitely don't forget this!

I really wanted to nominate 4, but I guess I'll leave the ARX-7 Arbalest(Full Metal Panic) to someone else. ;)

I choose the most patriotic of Robots: Liberty Prime.

Brainiac, and before you jump down my throat, he can posses his own ship, which is giant.

And freaking horrifying.

And finally, The Star Forge, the Rakattan space station capable of building an army that could destroy a galaxy spanning Republic.

I'm justifying that one, because Darth Malak implies the station to have a will of its own, granted by the Dark Side of the Force, which went into its construction.

And as an honorable mention, N-K Necrosis, because he's tiny, but freaking awesome.

Glad to see it already mentioned on the thread. :)

Wing Zero on the left, and Epyon on the right. My choices are all from the same series so it may be a bit boring, but these are my favorites.

Am I only going to pick mechs from Gundam? Hell yes.

RX-0 Unicorn Gundam 02 Banshee
It's big, scary and dangerous. It's a beast, and the story makes it a tragic beast.
MSA-0011[Ext] Ex-S Gundam
It's excessively fast, excessively powerful and comes with an AI system that eats ace pilots for breakfast. And still very noob-friendly. It's the suit that I'd need. :)
MSN-06S Sinanju
Fast, maneuverable and blinged out. It looks amazing.

Wing Gundam Zero

Those guns kick ass. They can destroy an entire space colony in one shot. Also: wings. You'd think the physics behind them to be complete bull. Because they are. Also, fuck you for bringing physics to a discussion about giant robots.

Liberty Prime

Badass robot that fights communism. "Communism is the very definition of failure!"

Liger Zero

Sleek and powerful. Looks epic. What else do you need?

I'm quite the Gundam fan, so my three nominations will all be from various Gundam series:

The Gundam descendant so nice they built it thrice. I do love me some function-over-form designed mobile suits, and the Mk.II is my all-time favourite, especially with the Titans colour-scheme. What I love about the UC-designed mobile suits (particularly from Gundam 0079 through to Char's Counterattack) is how believable they were. There weren't 15 different types of Gundam, each with its own hyper-mega-laser-destroyer-beam-massacre attack or completely OTT design for a standard 18m-to-20m MS (I'm lookin' at you SEED and 00!), just suits that were designed as weapons for military combat that had flaws and limitations (e.g. MSs couldn't sustain flight in on Earth for long because, well, gravity, unless they were on Jabbers or were built specifically for flight). It has the honour of being the first Gunpla model I own.

Whilst the original Wing Gundam may ring closer to most western audiences with Gundam Wing being the first Gundam series to really hit it here in the west, the design of the Wing Zero just looks so much nicer, and the suit itself is much stronger. I prefer this to the Wing Zero Custom (the redesign of the Wing Zero done for the Endless Waltz OVA by design veteran Hajime Katoki, seen here [http://www.scififantmodmadrealm.com/PGW-GundamZeroCustom/PGW-GundamZeroCustom-20.jpg]) as the Custom just looks silly, not Real-Robot-y and it doesn't seem like something built for use in battle. The original Wing Zero, however? Look at it, it's awesome, it can transform, and has that cool split-rifle. The Deathscythe Hell ain't got nothin' on this ;)

If I'm posting mechs from the Gundam series', how can I not post one piloted by the one-and-only Char Aznable, The Red Comet. This was the last suit that Char flew before his 'disappearance' (it's in a spoiler tag, alright? :p), and, well, just look at this thing. It's bulky yet sleek, flashy yet tame, highly-powered and yet refined and built for its purpose: combat. Char even shared the blueprints so that his rival and protagonist, Amuro Ray, could build a Mobile Suit that matched its capabilities.

Two words: Mobile. Horse.

You just can't argue with a galaxy sized, trans-dimensional mecha piloted russian doll style by 5 OTHER MECHAS. Did I also mention it's on fire?

If I could, would have picked all of the 'Think Tanks' and Multiped tanks from the Ghost in the Shell series because they all have really kickass designs. But alas I can only choose one. May as well choose the biggest and baddest of the lot!

While the Tau may not be the most interesting lore-wise, effective or even fitting (nothing screams grimdark like blue commie weebs from outer space. I say this in the most loving way possible. Love the Tau!) faction in the 40k universe, they do have great designs for their units, with the Crisis being easily the most iconic. They're versatile, highly mobile and insanely effective hit-and-run units thanks to their jump jets.

Some honourable mentions:
