I have to wonder if this will either be a damn good if not better resident evil 4 (Needs a campy character if it is. I fucking love camp) or a dead space minus the space part...

It looks like a cat? Now that you mention it, it kinda does... Like some kind of yawning cat.

For the love of god, please tell me this will have a populated overworld where we can interact with people between horror sections(kinda like Deadly Premonition, but without the Twin Peaks). That's the vibe I'm catching off of the first screenshot (or I could just be getting ahead of myself). The humanoids don't look too amazing, but I like the aesthetic generally. Stealth mechanics are very welcome, especially since it appears as though the enemy you're avoiding is a human as apposed to some huge creepy spindly thing, which I kinda like.

I have a lot of faith in Mikami, I know this'll be a good game, it's just a matter of whether it'll be a good game or an instant classic.

It looks like RE forgot to take it's extra strong happy pills and started hanging out with it's new friends Condemned and Silent Hill, not that that's a bad thing by any stretch.

I may give it a look in as I imagine it could be pretty decent but then again i'm still smarting from Skyrim being neglected...

I loved RE4. And the Wii version was the best because you could actually, you know, AIM.

That said I'm really hoping for a game that is as pants poopingly scary as the underground sections of STALKER:SoC.

The screen shots certainly offer a lot of promise. I will be quite curious to learn how weapons will be handled. Melee is a certainty, but guns can be quite problematic. I like the thought presented by the screenshot #5 that contains the character with only a handgun. I would be delighted if fully automatic weapons did not make an appearance at all. On top of that, if you limit it to more basic firearms you could add the edge of not providing an ammo counter on the screen. Tension can be boosted up by limited ammo, requiring to think about how many bullets you have used out of a given clip, and the truly terrifying sound of "click". So here's hoping.

I'm actually really excited for this game, I was saddened by the cynicism in the announcement thread. Resident Evil was creepy as hell back in the day.
I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one. The way people reacted, you'd think Resident Evil invented blood or something. When some dude said that 6 armed thing was "clearly" the witch from left4dead I threw my arms up in and shouted "DONE"

After seeing Safe Head (who would probably only be scary if you were abused by a padlock when you were a child), and seeing how the trailer was playing him up to be the big bad of the game, I'm more than a little pessimistic. But who knows? There's always the potential for greatness... it's just that greatness is incredibly rare nowadays.
As a long time horror fan, I've gotten very, very jaded.

We have the usual assortment of dead people and kind-of-dead-but-not-really people. Enjoy.

Resident Evil creator, Shinji Mikami, has made a lot of big claims about his upcoming title. If the hype to be believed, The Evil Within, will be the legendary dev's grand return to his survival horror roots. Considering Mikami hasn't made a survival horror game since 2005 (or 2002 depending on your feelings on Resident Evil 4 - I thought it was to survival horror games as Airplane! was to disaster films) and the genre has sadly fallen into disrepair in his absence, fan expectations and doubts are running high.

Grumpy Cat is offended.

OT: Pretty interesting looking screen shots. Not sure if I'll play this though, not because I don't like the looks of it, I'm just not really into survival horror games.

So, Mikami is trying to make a psychological horror game, eh? I can't say I blame him - Resident Evil has never been scary to me, not even as a kid, and not even the fabled REmake managed to frighten me in the least. Silent Hill on the other hand...

From what I've read about the game so far, it seems interesting. More puzzles and less combat is something I'm particularly keen on. Considering that fans worship Resident Evil 4, it would have been easy for Mikami to release another bland, shoot 'em up, co-op 'horror' experience, so I'm very happy to see that's not the case.

Right now I'm quite excited about this. Give it a few weeks and I imagine I'll be incredibly pessimistic about it. But for now, this looks very cool. I really liked RE4, and all it's camp horror-ness, but I'm hoping for something more silent hill in nature. I don't really want the game to throw monsters at me all the time.

The trailer didn't impress me very much, but the screen shots have me fairly interested. I'll wait with hopeful optimism for more on the game. :3

That's quite an ingenious thought. So subtle and simple, yet it'll have a constant effect on the combat.

"Did I fire 6 shots or 5?"

"Oh crap I fired 6 AAHHHHHH!"
