The Fallout: New Vegas "Comprehensive Patch" is Oh-So-Close

I'm waiting to buy this game until after i hear that it's been fixed. I hope the escapist (or someone) does a re-review of the game post-patch.

I'm not quite sure on the Escapist's review policies, but from every reviewing magazine/website I've seen, they won't review a game post patch. The reasoning behind this is that you have to connect to the internet and download a patch to be able to enjoy the game as much or as little as the reviewers did, and as remote a possibility that it is, some people might just not have an internet connection.

So, they review the out-of-the-box experience. Anyone who buys the game retail will get the same experience.

Pretty much yeah.

Sucks I know, but there's not much anyone can do about it. Well, developers could release games that aren't bugged to all hell, but that idea seems to be ignored as "silly".

I get the weird feeling that next year I'll see the escapist post "New Vegas Comprehensive Patch Promised 'Soon'".

I'm not quite so optimistic.
This patch (like all their others) will probably just get rid of some minor exploits and visual bugs. Then they'll let the game rot with it's freezing and unfinishable quests. That's what they did with Fallout 3 and Oblivion: they released a patch that took care of a few non-game-breaking bugs then any following patches were connected to dlc which all seemed to make things worse.

These games just don't work on the consoles. I'm actually surprised they're even bothering with a PC patch. The ones the modders come up with are always better.

Didn't have those problems with F3 when patched. I've had only minor issues with NV: some random crashes, some strange control lock-ups and not being able to talk to an NPC (Logan) in Camp Searchlight. I may run into more, but it could be far worse.

Nothing I didn't really experience with earlier F3 builds.

Well, Fallout 3 wasn't as bad to begin with, was it? It had some freezing problems, and some weird things that happened but didn't really affect my enjoyment: leaping deathclaws, stretchy limbed corpse slingshot, short range teleportation. It's not the clustermuck that FNV is: I've had 20x the freezing of F3 goty(that's no exaggeration), unfinishable/unstartable quests (good thing I save often), disappearing or paralyzed companions.

I remember when they patched Fallout 3 all they took out were those fairly benign (and sometimes humorous) glitches like leaping deathclaws but didn't do anything about the freezing. The FNV patches appear to be going the same way. The patch they have already released for Vegas only made players unable to take advantage of a couple of xp exploits and stuff like that, and not the shiton of really annoying game breaking errors that make me want to crap in the case and mail it back to them.
It's a shame that the game is so messed up because if it actually worked, I would love it.

From memory, there were a lot of complaints about F3 when it was released. I purchased fairly early on into its shelf life and remember having lots of annoying bugs; it wasn't unplayable, but the game did become rage inducing at times. It got patched and it now has a lot less of the annoying issues I encountered -- for me at least. I've heard that some of the glitches are hard coded into what is now an aged engine, however I can't verify such statements, myself.

As for NV: I'm having issues, yet the game hasn't become unplayable for me. It's a shame that you and others are having such a hard time with it and I really hope this 'comprehensive' patch cleans it up into a much more palatable experience.

I remember the early days of Fallout 3 and it wasn't anywhere near as bad as FNV. It didn't get anywhere close to this bad until they started loading on the dlc. The patch in between only made the game a little less absurdly trippy to me: making it more Twilight Zone trippy.
I got my fingers crossed too. I just can't find the faith to be very optimistic.

It crashes by just walking around for minutes without doing anything even AFTER applying the 4th official patch so yes, it's broken beyond repair.

Obsidian games aren't even worth pirating these days.

I love NewVeags and I really wanna play through it but the crashs and glitchs and such kinda made me go back to Fallout 3. But I gotta be honest the glitchs aside the game was still playable... until I downloaded the DLC Sierra Madre (which I wont go into detail of the amount of fustration I had with that) but after I got through it the game jumped around alot, Fast Travel was a Fast way to have your game freeze, the load times I swear got longer and I really think there are more invisible Walls now.

Nope, still not fixed. Try this mod on the New Vegas Nexus http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=39012. It's your best bet for the immediate future. They may fix it properly in the next patch (whenever that is) but somehow I don't see it happening.

Oh, I guess if you're not using a PC you're outta luck.

Also: For PC users this Community bugfix 0.1.2 [http://www.ravenmodding.terminal47.net/?p=768>lang=en] fixes a great deal (though not nearly all) of the bugs that remain after the patch.
