Mine was Exodus by Bob Marley, I was 9 years old (16 now) I'd just seen the film Shark's Tale and I heard Three Little Birds in the film. I went and bought that album just for that song. That started my love affair with Bob Marley's music, sadly I haven't got the CD anymore my bastard brother snapped it. I'll buy it again eventually.

So, escapists what was the first album you ever bought? Do you still have it?

Gosh golly, I think it was some Violent Femmes album. My older sister was into them who was in college at the time, so I got some birthday money and picked up an album, and absolutely ate it up. Listened to it for half a year or so nonstop, felt so cool cuz it was a band my sister was into but no one my age had ever heard of. They like, totally didn't get it, man. Still love the Violent Femmes and that was probably the start of my love affair for obscure music. All I can say is thank god my mom never listened too closely to the lyrics in any of there stuff.

Country Death Song for instance.

Mine was Nickelback, Silver Side Up. First single was Wake Me Up Inside by Evanescence. Safe to say my musical taste could only get better...

The first album I bought for myself was Fear of the Dark by Iron Maiden. I had received a few albums as gifts prior to that, and had always had access to good music, but it was the first time I saw a CD and bought it with my own money. It was one of those cases where I was in a thrift shop, looking through the gospel-dominated CD section in hopes of finding either a computer game or some kind of of worthwhile album, and struck absolute gold.

My first ever musical purchase was the soundtrack to Men in Black on cassette... Fuck yeah!

The first single I bought was The Offspring's Million Miles Away.

The first album I bought when I realised I really liked music was Metallica's "Black" album.

The first record I bought when I developed a proper musical taste was Nick Drake's Five Leaves.

The last record I bought was Air's Talkie Walkie.

Make of this what you will.

The first album I bought was Korn's self-titled album. I remember I had lunch money on me and I bought it with that. Granted I had to eat peanut butter cup and crackers for a few days at school, but it was totally worth it.

I keep an open door policy :D Why, are you a Will Smith fan too? :p
Actually it was Nick Drake. Now, for some reason, I want a Will Smith cover of Five Leaves Left. We can make it a trilogy. Vanilla Ice gets Bryter Layter (HAH!) and MC Hammer gets Pink Moon. Pitchfork.com! Start your engines!
Oh god! I don't think my ears can repel mash-ups of this magnitude!

Figured it was the Drake, after the Dylan comment after all. Though I can almost hear Will Smith getting old one day (I mean, he ages just like the rest of us right?...Right!?) and sitting down by the bank of a river strumming away to Time has told me... Actually that's not as terrible a thought as I imagined...

Seeing as Mr Jackson is so darned proficient in the blues it can't be a hard stretch to assume Will is too. That's right, he's black ergo he can play the blues...

I agree.

OT: The first album I ever bought was Metallica's Black Album. Not their best, sure, but to my 14-year-old ears it was a revelation.

A Sense Of Purpose by In Flames.
Went to the shop to buy their newer album, and when I found out they didn't have it yet I got the special edition of a sense of purpose. I had never listened to any of it's song before and it turned out to be one of the best decisions of my life as it is now my favorite album.

Mine was a 3 cd deal, picked up Guns'n'Roses (Use your illusion 1), Bon Jovi (Crossroads, best of) and Magnus Uggla (Swedish artist,Another best of album). Really cant remember how old i was, and no....all these a long gone.

Think i got the most mileage out of Use you illusion 1, set me upon the path for greater music experiences. I remember falling asleep to the number 16 track, Coma. There need to be more 16 minute songs in existence.

First CD I ever bought was the Misfits Collection 2. After that I think it was Fugazi: 13 songs. And Agentnein, props for the Violent Femmes. The first vinyl album I bought was In God we Trust, Inc. by the Dead Kennedys.

I THINK it was Madonna's "Like A Virgin". It's the earliest album I can recall owning (aside from an old Daffy Duck .45 I had as a kid). I was 8 or 9 and bought (and still own) that album and a .45 that was out at the time, went home, put it on the record player and baked chocolate chip cookies for my parents and the guys who were building our new house. :D Fun memory.

If you got one of their good albums, your mind would be blown all the way to Saturn, then! :p

The first album I bought was Ingenmansland by Nordman. I think I was 5 or 6. But since none of you are going to know who that is (save that one guy) it might be more interesting to relay the story of how I became what is colloquially known as a 'metalhead'. Especially since it's gaming related!

In my early teens, I borrowed a snowboarding game for the Gamecube called 'SSX Tricky'. The game listed the favourite bands of the fictional characters in the game, and since the guy I liked the most had his listed as Slayer and Napalm Death I figured I'd check them out the next time I went to a record store. So I did. The album I came home with was Seasons in the Abyss by Slayer.

It is thus the fault of SSX Tricky that I'm currently roaring along to a Deicide song in my underwear in a room full of guitars and basses.
