For an essay for my history class, I was planning to do a "Complete History Of Video Games", but there are some big things I can't seem to find on the internets. Things likes 'the first headshot' or 'the first gibs' or even 'the first goddamn escort mission'. So I ask these questions to you, the good people of the Escapist. Yay.

Why would you choose such a broad topic, and why would you focus on such trivial aspects of the industry? What have you covered?
I suggest looking into the history of FPS culture, if these are your interests.
Gaming is far from just "Boom! Headshot."

I'd give the "first game to be totally drugged out without anyone noticing" award to Super Mario Brothers. Think about it for a second.

I think "Turok: Dinosaur Hunter" was one of the first games to have location-based damage, and also one of the first to have your gun on the right hand side of the screen.

I know gaming is much, much more than that.
This is a broad topic because it's a big essay, something along the lines of 20 pages.

Armored Core was the first mecha action game to let you fully customize your mech in ways you could never even imagine possible.

I dare Gundam to have an infinity number of combinations.

The Legend of Zelda may be the first sandbox game. I certainly recall it being like nothing I'd ever seen before.

I lost.

On another note - i think the first headshot would have been on Super Mario Bros, when he shoots fireballs, or maybe Doom.

You're going to do a research project but you don't have the slightest clue how to do research besides asking someone else to do it for you? You're headed for an EF grade. Not just a regular Fail, an Epic Fail.

That's why they skip "E" in the grades system!

I'll second that.

For fun though, the first game with regenerating health was an X-men game from the early nineties, wolverine was the only one that had regenerating health. I don't remember the title of the game, look it up.

well, if your going to write an essay on the topic of the history of videogaming, I wouldn't just talk about the games and such, i'd also talk about how the business has changed, how its economy has grown (e.g. games cost a lot more to make nowadays), etc etc :)

Complete history of video games? Good luck, while I admire your ambition, you will need a lot more than the combined knowledge of a forum.

I'd be a bit more specific with your essay, such as history of a certain genre or developer.
