Now that the American election hype is calming and America has their first black president here is a thought, what about America having a Native American president wouldn't that be even bigger? I mean a I haven't heard any discussions about it (correct me if I am wrong) but wouldn't it be great if there was someone in power who I consider were the 'first' Americans. Obviously they would have to be fit for the job but i would consider that a lot bigger than the first black president.

Racial equality aside, I think whose ever fit to be president should be President. It does not matter their race, sex, anything like that. Even Clinton's adultry, while distasteful, does not automatically disqualify him in my book.

I think that would be pretty cool, Natives definately deserve the presidency at some point in the future, especially if they have a saavy intelligent figure like Obama pulling for it.
Sadly I doubt it will happen in Canada for quite a while, at least not until we fix our broken as hell reserve system (Aparthied was based on it, yet it's still in place, something is wrong with that). We'll probably see an Indian Prime Minister or an Asian Prime Minister before we see a native one here in Canada.

Next time let's have a ferret president. This talk of different types of presidents should go away and kill itself. Seriously. I am worried because people seem to want to focus on all kinds of different stuff instead of what is important. Is that man qualified to be president? Yes/No. That is the single most important thing that should be of concern and nothing else.
I was just discussing this with a friend last night and I am all for it. I'd love to have Native American for President, Vice President, or as an Ambassador.

Those arguments are senseless. Firstly, the sweeping majority of Natives in North America died as a result of unpredictable ailments, not systemic genocide (the British sought to leave large parts of the northwest United States to the Natives prior to the American Revolution, for example; and yes, I know about the smallpox blankets) and secondly, where do you draw the line with those kind of Marxist critiques? The French occupied the British Isles in 1066, and perpetrated what you would describe as "cultural genocide" against its inhabitants. Is that worth remarking? Likewise, Roman-Catholics in the UK could claim that they deserve compensation because of Cromwell, the deposition of James II, and the bans that existed for centuries on them attending university or holding high-level office. Examples abound: if you apply the criteria you're suggesting impartially, the world economy would collapse because countries couldn't pay the compensatory payments to virtually every subset on the planet.
As a native american I think that Race and Sex with elections do not matter one little bit.

Native Americans (with little to no other races in them) make up less than half of 1% of the united states population. Statistically it's unlikely.
