This has me optimistic. Of all the JL members, Flash is the worst possible character to make a mopey douchebag.

After Quicksilver, who is the only character besides Xavier and Magneto I care about in Fox's X-men, The Flash movie has a lot to live up to.

I feel bad for the new director. He's the first to face the impossible - Making a movie about a character that already exist in the Arrowverse, under the DCEU's constraining 'If it makes us smile, it isn't getting put on the big screen' policy. It'll be an uphill battle to make something that's worth the time, when one could just go watch three The Flash episodes.

But even I agree that the Flash should be more like Flash. I mean I don't know how can you make him "Mopey"

So basically the DC movie 'verse is in complete freefall after the anvil in the parachute pack that was BvS, and everyone is trying to get everyone else to cushion the landing in the hopes they'll just be permanently disfigured and crippled, but still technically with a career afterwards.

Wait. This is the same Flash that's in the TV show, right? So... only fans of the TV show will be able to get what's going on?

And I thought Batman v. Superman had a problem trying to create a 'verse...

No, it's still a separate universes Flash. No hero as cheerful as the TV version of the Flash could ever possibly be allowed into the DCEU.

Which is saying a lot, since the flash show just got off a 15 episode mopey story arc.
I'm admittedly way behind on The Flash TV show, but presumably, he isn't interrogating criminals by barking questions through a haze of spittle as he gives them a Mach 2 road rash. Which is pretty much how I'm envisioning the DCEU Flash.

If you consider the Superman and Batman pictures to count as actual "smiles" then you must live in a really miserable place.

It seems odd for them to disregard the TV universe when it's done some much of the universe-building groundwork that the films rushed through so clumsily. I mean the MCU are being dicks about their TV projects too but at least they aren't writing them out of existence.

I still think the DCEU should have been 'Universe 2,' as per The Flash, so they could be separate, but with the occasional neat crossover.

And I, of course, am not saying that because I want there to be a Justice Lords (Movies) vs. Justice League (TV) show down. No sir, I would never suggest that.

...Okay, that's actually worse. That's three different live-action continuities to keep track of.

No, but the main villain is a psychopathic mass murderer. whose start of darkness was watching his dad beat his mom in front of him. he became a serial killer and was committed to an asylum, where he got his speed powers. Hes dressed in solid black and his voice sounds demonic. He then pulls a Bane by snapping Flash's back (good thing he can heal) and parades him around the city while dying.

and some more detailed spoilers

he kidnaps wally forcing Barry to give his powers up. Barry tries to regain his powers ala Flashpoint Paradox which ends up killing him (albeit temporarily) and then the villain kills his dad in front of him.

its a rough week for Barry
Come on, man, I gotta wait for Netflix. Gimme a break.

I guess if you're actually interested in keeping track of all of them it would be a bummer.

Do you even read what AccursedTheory says anymore or do you just find something you don't like and try to disprove it completely out of context?

OT: Okay, cool I suppose. I desperately want these movies to be good and now that Geoff Johns is helping out and WB wants to course correct I'm optimistic. Grant Gustin is probably too busy counting his money and fan letters to give a shit about this but damn it I just want him to be the Flash

And still, the TV version manages to have more lighthearted and levity moments that anything the DCEU has done in the last few movies because, to paraphrase a lead writer of DCEU: "Martian Manhunter is a stupid character only virgins know about..."

To put it in another way, when two characters from the DC cinematic universe meet, this happens:

I think the idea that was being put forth was that nothing in the movie could make the execs or viewers smile. People in the movie can smile all they want, but no joy is to be felt by the viewer. And seriously? You call the face Affleck is making in that third link a smile?

Also Cisco dies, Kaitlin's pet hamster gets stepped on, and Joe "accidentally" kills Iris, but is still more cheerful then the DCEU.

Seriously though it does get slightly darker, but is still awesome. Plus it doesn't have a finale so bad that the Arrow Reddit becomes a Daredevil Reddit.

Yah... that is more like a sarcastic sneer at a man he knows he's going to try to kill in a week or so. And considering he mentions the Joker about 4 seconds later, I'm pretty sure 'joy' isn't what they were going for.

Dark moments are fine. The DCAU got dark - It arguably got darker then Dawn of Justice. But it's the universe that get's dark, not the heart of the heroes. And that makes a huge difference.
