I am on my way back from school taking the train from the north of England to the south. While I am doing this I am messaging people around the world, gaming and watching films and music videos. This would have been so incomprehensible to a young me 15 years ago. mobile phones are so cheap and easy to make at this point they are free with telephone plans. Just food for though but the world is evolving pretty rapidly if you think about it. Are we nearing the Jetsons future where we are so efficient any avergae joe can work three hours a day pushing a button and produce enough for a wife, two kids a great dane from space and a robot housekeeper

It won't really be the future until jetpacks, flying cars and teleporters are widely commercialized and available. Those are my three conditions.

EDIT: Hoverboards too.

Sure, if you have reasonable telecom services. I wouldn't be watching movies or messaging much on my phone, the data plans are generally overpriced and come with data caps here in Canada.

The future is a set of moving goalposts. Everyone in the world could probably live at a 1950's standard of living for only a few hours of work a week, but few people does as 21st century tech is pretty damn awesome.

Anyway, the future will come for me when 3D printing becomes a widespread phenomenon that everyone uses, I can see this happening in the next decade. And this will have absolutely massive repercussions for space exploration. The internet is pretty awesome but I'd really like to see how far we take technology in the next few decades. Biotech is also a hugely promising area to watch.

I am enthralled by advancements in the fields of human enhancement and genetic engineering. I could also look at cyberpunk and transhuman artwork all day.

The future is the future. It is the present whose orientation changes.

I feel like we live in the near future, I mean we can carry around computers in our pockets, talk effortlessly to people thousands of miles away and have encyclopedias with millions of articles freely available on the net. The far future won't be here though until transhumanism is achieved and we can abandon our mortal bodies for any form we choose... I hope to live to see that day :)

Well, considering Star Trek has strangely preceded some of our tech in the shows/movies I'd say of course we're living in the future in a sense. But so many people are living in the future that the present is quite going to shit I must say. Absolutely fucking crazy mind you that we're at the point where you can almost be anywhere in the world and still get a phone signal... Almost.
But really honestly we're in the present, but living in a present that was a future our past selves may not have been able to dream would be true.
"The future is now! Soon every American home will integrate their television, phone and computer. You'll be able to visit the Louvre on one channel, or watch female wrestling on another. You can do your shopping at home, or play Mortal Kombat with a friend from Vietnam. There's no end to the possibilities!" - Cable Guy

Once I can augment my body Deus Ex style then I will say the future is now. I want some damn sunglasses that I can retract into my face! I'm always losing my current pair.

Being able to punch through a wall and jump off a building without incurring harm would be awesome too.

Captcha: do you love me?

Umm... I don't know how to break this to you Captcha. I know we had that night in Paris, but I thought we said it didn't mean anything! Look you're wonderful, but it just wouldn't work. It's not you, it's me. I hope we can stay friends.
