Was Warner's classic innings a fluke?
Apparently it was, 7 off 12 balls the other night.

Does anyone else think the amount of media coverage this guy got was completely ridiculous? I'm not saying he has a lack of skill but claiming him to be "Australia's new hero" and a "Rockstar" after one 20/20 match? I mean c'mon, give the guy some time.
Yeah I agree with you. It was one damn match and everyone is singing his praises. Some are already saying 'Test spot'. I have no doubt he's talented, but let him play with the Blues for a season first before we call him back for one-dayers.

Can't wait for the ODI's, it's going to be brilliant.
I too disagree with the hype surrounding Dave Warner. Anyone can see that he has considerable talent and he may be good enough to nail a spot in the Test side, but labeling the poor bastard as a "hero" after one match (a Twenty/20 no less!!) was a tad excessive. Who knows...maybe now, after the retirement of Warne, Gilly, Haydos etc. we're desperate for heroes?

I'm enjoying the ODI's so far and can't wait for tomorrow's match in Adelaide. But I'm also bummed that I can't go as I only live 3 hours away :(

Any one else sick of Duminy and Albie Morkel yet? :p
He did well in the last one-dayer. He got 60-something I think. Best score of our team. We should have got at least 300 on that Sydney pitch. Fools.

Yeah, Duminy and Morkel are CRUSHING us. Especially Morkel....he's too damn good.

I hope we can at least pick up the ODI wins or we're going to be sore.....because it would a series raping...
Well as I speak Warner is caught on 1.
Aus 1/9.

What a smashing start to the Aussie Day Match! [/sarcasm]

EDIT: And there goes Marsh. Fuck. 2/17.

Yeah we're batting tomorrow. We got about half an hour of batting in before stumps today. We've still got our wickets intact, thankfully.

Hayden came out swinging and we posted about 30-odd.
Good. What odds you got on Hayden getting a big score. I think he might crawl his way to fifty...I have hope. But if he throws his wicket away again with some willy-nilly ridiculous shot...you know...the one's he used to be able to hit, then i'm going to be pissed.
I'm relying on Clarke and Johnson to hopefully set our first decent second innings total.
Hayden looked a lot more focused (although he did survive a close LBW call). For example he faced the second to last over and picked up a few runs and all the announcers were saying how he should bat out the over and leave Katich at the other end to face the last over of the day - in order to survive. However, on the last ball he pushed hard for a single so he could personally face the last over.

Seeing as this could very well be his last Test, I wouldn't be surprised if stayed at the crease for a while.
I agree. At least I hope he will. I think he has more in him, he's simply lost form. The Australian selectors are just being quite harsh on him because of his age. I know for a fact that Ponting has had far longer periods of poor form and he got to maintain his spot.

Do you think Symond's should be allowed back in the team? Assuming Watson reaches fitness (which I don't think he will).
This may sound a little harsh but, I'd take Symonds with a niggling injury than a fully fit Shane Watson any day. Watson is serviceable but just seems a little out of his depth at times. If Symonds comes back in good nick, I say let him in.
I agree....but only to a certain point. I hate Watson as much as the next man lol. But honestly, he's more of an all-rounder than Symonds now.

I haven't seen Symond's bowl in ages, let alone bowl effectively. His batting is hardly 'masterful' anymore, whereas Watson won Player of the Series in the first IPL. The only reason I hate the prat is because he's ALWAYS BLOODY INJURED. Lol, sorry. It's like he gets a cudicle, takes his ACA pay and goes on holiday every year.

Looking forward to todays match. It's going to be a RIPPER!

Australia has been a great team for as long as I remember, but I've always despised the team. To me they come off as incredibly arrogant, which is annoying as their skills match their arrogrance. Although its probably also because I support South Africa, and our results are so incredibly unpredictable.
I agree with this, i hate it how arrogant we are when we are dominating but as soon as they lose a couple of matches the public turns on them like a pack of hungry wolves on an injured rabbit, eg after they lost to India and they jumped onto Ponting for poor decisions

This is how Australia loses to South Africa completely....such a shame.

I think the series would have been closer if we weren't so injury-stricken.

I know that this is probably a thread specifically targeting Australian's and cricket fans, but I am legitimately interested to hear what some of you might have to say.

Considering our record as a cricketing nation over the past ten years I would say our time in the spotlight isn't over. Whilst we've lost a lot of our more experienced players I think the talent pool in Australia will see to it that any time we spend away from the top position in the world will be short-lived.

I bring this topic up considering Australia's series loss to South Africa this summer. Our first series loss in Australia since...I don't know when, I can't think of one.

If you're a cricket fan, Australian or otherwise, let me know what you think.
past ten years? we were the first people to beat the English at their own game. we've had some hard ships before, but we always get through them, ever time we have a major loss of our criket greats and get a lot of newbies in, this happens, but then we get our game back and we WIN THE FUCKING GAME.
Yeah fair enough. That and I think Australia losing can even be good for us. Means we have to re-think our tactics and re-think our selections, rather than just relying on the 'Haydens' and 'Pontings' and 'Clarkes' to hit a buttload of runs and save the day.

Plus, the first three matches were SO close! I haven't seen that in AGES! It makes for great cricket.

Well, it wasn't much of a ripper now, was it? :p

It's incredible: I hadn't even heard of this Botha guy before this summer and, not only has he out-captained and out-played Ponting and his men but he has personally seen to it that our Batsman looked like amateurs during these ODI's.

...Oh, yeah, and Symonds is in trouble again.
