Hello fellow Escapists and good afternoon to you all. My question is what do you expect from the next gen. consoles? ie what technology do you think it will contain and do you think they will be better than previous generations?

Personally, I think it will be 3D motion control gaming and if so, I won't even bother buying one.

Now, I'd love to see a vamp up in physics. You know, water effects, ambient lighting, realistic rag-dolls, (which we certainly don't have yet, even in HL2:E2.) However, much like dragonslayer32, I believe that instead we will be stuck with 3D, a a rather annoying gimmick that actually detracts from the detail of the picture, (which cancels out the whole HD appeal of the consoles!)

1. Movies have a hologram
2. Goggles that put you into the movie
3. Virtual Reality gaming and instead of pain when you are hurt you get a tickle which makes it more realistic since you will be stunned from the pain(tickle) and this virtual realistic will have a army game and people with a high pain(tickle) tolerance have a advantage for being tough and trained.
4. virtual reality sex

I don't even think Sony has release a preliminary on the PS4. The PS3 was LITERALLY a next gen console and was build to be competitive for up to 7-10 years. The same can be said for the 360.

Nintendo took a different approach and rather than make the revolution as a next gen console, they changed the name to Wii (for whever reason they stated) and it was only supposed to run strong for 3-5 years. THey were going to make another console and get fresh sales.

So I don't really think the next gen is coming out for a while

If anything I'd like them to actually focus on some good games again.

Agreed this would be awesome and is something I have been longing for long before the matrix.

Sadly though I have serious doubt I will see this in my currently predicted life span.

Why do I phrase it like that you ask, well I think that within my currently predicted lifespan there will be a massive leap in medical technology which will extend my currently predicted lifespan significantly.

Or maybe im just hoping hehe.
Hell yeah I'm only 17 and I'm expecting to live forever.

Hooray for medical science!

The next step in gaming is obviously going to be 3D. 3D seems to be the big craze these days.

One day I think/hope gaming will reach something like the holodeck from Star Trek.

Or we need something with a flux capacitor. Everything is more fun with flux capacitors.

the next big game step is not 3D, rather it will be AI and enhanced communication capabilities

Honestly? Depends on how successful Kinect and Move are. If they are even moderately successful, I predict motion controls will be a major part of the next generation of consoles.

Pretty much what PCs are doing now. Resolutions that are actually high not barely HD or upscaled, textures that aren't muddy and horrible, games that don't look good because of excessive bloom and blur which hide the shittiness, and also the games may actually have anti-aliasing for once.

Games that adapt to your play style e.g:im a sniper pitted against anti sniper's, im a heavy pitted against anti heavys, etc. Failing that a system online that creates teams based on skills : imagine team fortress where both teams have people equally good at each class, one person on both teams playing as one class.

I'd be to optimistic if I say it would be like Warhammer 40k and that we would need sockets at the back of the head and numerous parts of the spinal column to play something like the Imperial equivalent of the Wii. Why? Simply because I've yet to see the Emperor of Mankind.

Oh wait...

Well... I've always wanted sapient AI. You know, AI that thinks it's real. It won't have any power, of course- it'll be contained within the game, perfectly safe. It'll really make your allies in those wargames matter: Imagine if every terrified sob was legitimate, unscripted emotion?
Uhm... I'm still a good person, right?

On day I expect everything to be like guitar hero, you put on your VR suit, strap on your plasma screen visor, and grab your gun, or your guitar, your football, your sword and shield, you'd just have a bunch of proxy's, or maybe on multipurpose one, and you play.
