The gameboy advance/colour had some of the best games.

I've just found my old gameboy advance and some of my old games.
I'm having a bit of a nostalgia trip right now. I remember half the reason I got into gaming and half of the games that I love were all on the GBA.

I love this console and to be honest all other handhelds don't even compare.

So escapists what was your first experience with handheld consoles?
And do you still play them now?

I take my ds everywhere. It's a great way to pass time waiting on a train or in the car.

GAMEBOY COLOR IS THE GREATEST THING EVAR

My entire childhood is in that tiny little electronic device.

I bought a Nintendo DS just so I could relive Pokemon Gold by getting the remake.

Alas, nothing compares to original glory.

Man. I had the original gameboy. The chunky ass piece of crap. I had the limited edition see-through case.

That had some rockin' games.

Advance Wars, Fire Emblem and King Of Fighters EX2 and the two Wario Ware games (Minigame Mania & Twisted) were my favorites. I still play with it to this day.

I still remember playing tetris on my bro Gameboy and I currently own a DS (I waiting for Pokemon White and Okamiden to be release). The GBA had great games on it which my favourites were Golden Sun 1 and 2, Advance Wars and Fire Emblem Blazing Sword.

Good old GBC. I remember playing Dragon Warrior Monsters on it! God that game was awesome! I still have the cartridge and cry a bit inside whenever I try to plug it into my DS ; ;

I can't begin to count the hours I spent playing Yggdra Union on the GBA...

Or really how much time I have spent on Nintendo handhelds in general.

I've got so many GBA games... Granted, some of them are re-releases of old SNES titles... But there's definitely some good stuff.

Yeah, the pinnacle of 2d gaming. Definitely. XD.

This. Aside from the Pokemon and Metroid games, Golden Sun was pure win. I can only hope that Dark Dawn lives up to the first two once I get it.

My first handheld was pretty much what the majority of my friends had: A gameboy colour. I pretty much just played the occasional Mario and grinded levels in Pokemon but after getting Golden Sun and a gameboy advance I was sold into handheld gaming.

The Golden Sun series are still some of the best games I have ever played. When I was younger I was all about hand held gaming.

oh god, so many young people, it's like the children of the corn...

i had a game gear, damn your eyes. I can do Sonic 1 in my sleep and still consider the 8 bit version superior to the 16 ;) ... also there's nothing finer than 2 player micro machines on one handheld.

(...and a gameboy pocket, which was actually damn good and very handy; I could never get with the low-reflectivity screens on the GBC or GBA (or the former's wierd colours, particularly with monochrome games), despite having "inherited" one of the later and a stack of decent games AND its forerunner to the R4 cart. Only things I've played to any length is Tony Hawks (on a stretch of very bright summer days) and Lady Sia (via an emulator; it was first on the list of available ROMs). Maybe there's a great library of awesome titles I'm missing... but I'm likely just to graduate directly to the 3DS anyway :) ... now, lets see what you guys have suggested so I can try them out on an emulator... So long as it isn't just "Pokemon!!!" (can't stand it, sorry) and "Mario!!!")

edit: advance wars, damn - that was one i was always envious of when others had GBAs and I stuck with the pocket because any time i'd be free to play, it was usually in poorly lit places.

The GBA was great. My GBA collection was the only thing holding me back from upgrading my DS-lite to a DSi.

No GBA cart slot? No dice!

The Game Boy Advance had great games...but the unit itself sucked (at first anyway). Unless you were playing in broad daylight or directly under a lamp, the lack of a backlight made it hard as hell to even see what you were doing. Fortunately the SP version corrected this. I still have my SP around so I can play Pokemon Yellow from time to time (first generation all the way, don't give me all those newfangled Pokemon).

I recall my bro getting one of those 2nd gen gameboys that played in shades of grey. It was around that time that the color came out I opted to wait to get one of those instead.

And yea I have to agree I loved that thing. Some of the first games I played on it was a wario platformer and Pokemon blue. I loved that thing more than our 64.

The Kirby gameboy and gameboy advanced games are pure brilliance and everybody should play them.

I lost mine :(

I remember I had played like 200 hours or something and bred some sort of superdragon that was destroying stuff at level 3. I miss that game.
