Genres i absolutely cannot stand: puzzlers and racing games, particularly realistic simulation ones.

For puzzlers i've had fun with puzzle bobble and equivalent playing with other people, but find it mind blowingly dull to play by myself.

For racing games, ive enjoyed the occasional one (wipeout 2097, the old destruction derby where goal of the game was to destroy the other cars+your own as much as possible ^^ Whadya mean you were meant to win races? BS!) but running around a predefined track for x rounds is a dull and limited concept to my mind, that the only racers i tolerate have strong gimmicks beyond racing proves that. Aint a big fan of real world racing either.

Sport games round up my final choice, ive enjoyed a few bouts of PES with friends in small doses, but ultimately can't stomach more then a few individual games. And this is for a sport i can tolerate (football), things like american football would only get a confused look from me.

First person Shooters. Don't get me wrong I still play them from time to time, but umm, yeah, not the biggest fan, at all. They've become far too simplistic in this day and age, and just not my cup of tea. I used to absolutely love games like Turok, Duke Nukem, Doom, and Golden eye, but all for reasons outside of the fact that you were in FPS view and shooting a gun. Now that's the selling point, and aside from running in hallways and shooting other people, there isn't much going on. Hell, even putting aside the retardedly simplistic level design and lack of puzzles, I don't remember the last new FPS that had swim-able water! That's how simple and boring these games have gotten, water is too advanced and colorful for them now.

And yeah, I blame CoD since most developers admit they are just trying to copy that formula, even if they aren't making FPS games! *CoughRE6Cough*

Well my two favourites are RPGs and Fighting games one for the deep stories and character development (for games anyway) and the other for the deep gameplay as in no matter how good you get you can always get better plus being able to pull of crazy shit once you get good.

Genres I have never really cared for (although some games have proved to be an exception) are:-

Racing games - dont really like cars and I hate the rubber banding A.I

Sports - Not a huge fan of sports in RL either I hate watching almost any sport or playing it in a computer game, it just has no appeal.

Simulations - just bore me to death unless of course I have a huge interest in whats being simulated.

FPS - this varies I dont really dislike them as such but I have been burnt out on them for a while now (since Halo 2) so since then I havent really cared for them I have tried to get back into them a few times but they just dont do anything for me atm.

RTS - I just cant get into them although I would like to sometimes.

Not much of a fan of aRPGs. The action and fighting is removed from the player via a distant camera and limited interaction, and yet we're still expected to keep fighting and fighting and fighting in this manner, clicking enemies to death and shuffling the inventory in the most mundane manner possible. It's like playing a particularly repetitive strategy game, only without any strategy beyond clicking an enemy until it dies. Worst still, the story is always the weakest part to these things, and even the richest most meticulously designed aRPGs tend to have shitty stories.

Borderlands is marginally more interesting as a result of its more involved fighting and colourful characters, but it still becomes a slog in next no time.

With the exception of the Persona games, JRPGs. I just never really got into the way combat usually works, and even in Persona 4 the combat is so full of grinding and filler it gets boring halfway through any dungeon. Persona can back it up though with a fun plot and some really cool role playing mechanics that actually make you feel you are really in the game, coupled with a few interesting, dynamic characters. As for any others, I couldn't care less.

Otherwise, dating sims, modern military shooters, and football games. If only because I haven't really had any interest in trying them out. But who knows what the future holds...

I'd go as far as saying I loathe fighting games. A genre of games that are purely about violence and particularly shallow game play. Seriously, guys? Why do these still exist?

Because many people are shallow and glorify violence.

OT: I dont care for fighting games. whenever anyone talks about fighting games im just no, not itnerested, dont want to hear it. I actually dislike sport games. Racing games is something i also coulnt care less about. i liked TWO games of the genre, and thats about it. Puzzle games (games that are puzzles, not like having a puzzle in a game). Simulations to an extent. i like some things, like realistic physics and destroyable buildings, but there are othet things i dislike. Co-Op games is something i dislike too. I want to play singleplayer alone. if i want to play with others - i fire up a MMO. If i want to play with a friend - hotseat or GTFO.

Im a strategy, especially turn based strategy kind of guy. i also play some FPS (FPS>TPS solely on the camera alone) and i generally like RPGs, unless they are extremely grindy (and i mean like playing 40 hours for some marginal increase). I dont mind MMOS, though i avoid them solely on how much time they suck.

Now survival horror is something thats hard to say. i used to love that. but lately the one ive been playing is kind of "meh". and i mean, i though Dead Space was "meh" and apperently people think its best new IP so i guess i possibly kinda rown out of the genre.

Edit: There is one genre that i dont care so much i actually forgot and only remembered when taking a dump. That is point and click adventures. as far as im concerned world would be better without them.

Sports games. Be they arcade or realistic, I've never seen the appeal in playing a video game version of something you could just get up and play. You can't really say that of any other genre either, sports games just don't seem to make sense to me unless they feature mutants or some kind of gimmick like the Blitz games used to.

Other genres I don't care about would be strategy games in general. Not just something like Command and Conquer either but games like Sim City. I tried getting into Civilization when they released Civ-Rev on the 360 but I just couldn't stay invested. Halo Wars didn't sweeten me to the genre either and I'm sure it was made specifically to do just that.

Realistic Shooters. I'm not going to use that one joke term Yahtzee coined in his Warfighter (hahahaha) review but when it comes to games where they give me a gun and tell me to murder things, I would take the Doom Clones over the Cod clones any day of the week.

I also hate Wrpgs . Too much tolkien . Not enough originality .

I haven't enjoyed a fighting game since Tekken 3 or a racing game since Burnout Revenge and M.A.C.H. (if M.A.C.H. counts). i grew up loving them, especially Tekken 3, Yie Ar Kung-Fu, Crash Team Racing, Rollcage, and Wipeout, but now i just can't enjoy any fighters or racers.

I've also never liked any sports games that weren't golf-related. Even then, Hotshots Golf is the only series i can enjoy anymore.

I'd rather get a colonoscopy then play a TBC game. Also too, RTS, fighters, and racing games. Although, I didn't hate the RTS elements in Brutal Legend or the racing side missions in the GTA and Saint's Row games.

FPS games. I've just never been interested in them. I can play Third Person Shooters, but there's something about FPS's I don't like.

Also Fifa. I hate goddamned Fifa.

Well, are you primarily a PC or console gamer? Because if console, then perhaps it's because of the field of view and/or aim acceleration/assist? That's the reasoning my best friend has, at least.

OT: Well, I don't know, there's usually one or two games from any given genre that I find fun despite myself.

For isometric RPGs, I can't really get into the Baldur's Gate style of progression and archaic combat, but Diablo III and Torchlight II were both a lot of fun.

For real-time strategy/turn-based strategy/4X games, I've really enjoyed Star Trek: Birth of the Federation, Star Trek Armada II, Sins of a Solar Empire, Endless Space, Small Soldiers: Squad Commander, X-COM: Enemy Unknown, and I'll include the Worms franchise here because I can only think of one other "artillery game" and it is technically turn-based strategy.

For fighting games, I've always liked Super Smash Bros., Playstation All-Stars is a lot of fun, and even though I'm absolutely terrible at it BlazBlue: Continuum Shift is a huge blast with a great story.

For racing games, there's the obligatory Mario Kart response, the Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit games were always a lot of fun, and I've been getting increasingly interested in trying out WipEout and Blur lately. Also, I love Star Wars: Episode 1 Racer.

I guess technically I could include hack&slash games too, since the only reason Darksiders kept my interest was that it was more Legend of Zelda than God of War, and Devil May Cry is the only other set of titles that's really managed to not feel stale a few hours in.

Fighting, real-time/turn-based strategy, and first person games.

Those are my least favorite genres of all. I've been known to play 1-2 games from those genres(except rts, God I cannot stand rts games) but I typically stick to action adventure, rpgs and platformers.

I wouldn't say that I don't like/enjoy RTS games or MMOs, I just can't commit to the large amount of time necessary to enjoy/play the games properly. I like games where you can invest up to an hour or 2 and get a good playthrough before I turn it off and go do something else.

I honestly don't like playing games on a PC for obvious reasons (i.e. having to update biannually, having games that are difficult to install/play, etc.) and from past personal experiences (not having my progress saved, having to start over, not being able to play older games, etc.).

You sir, are the complete opposite of me. I enjoy a good RTS, love a good WRPG and loathe fighting games and JRPG.

The only FPS games that ever really kept me interested for more then a few days were Goldeneye & Borderlands.

Sports games. They usually have pretty dodgy physics, and If I wanted to play football(Soccer) id go outside and play it. The only kind that is MILDLY appealing, is the manager type games

I have a few genres I never really cared for, actually.

Sports games - I play sports in real life. I go to video games for escapism. I have played one of the Madden football iterations for about 20 minutes, got bored, and was declared the worst quarterback ever.

Real time strategy - just never found a game that would appeal to me. This may change, as a friend on here recently recommended a game in this genre that sounds intriguing.

Racing games - sort of. My love for Mario Kart 64 is unparalleled, but other than that, racers aren't my cup of tea.

And then every other genre falls into the "there's at least one or two games in the genre I really love."

Fighting Games because they are made for two people and I prefer single player games or with competitive games ones with variety. It's not like the games are bad, but once you have played it for an hour, you have pretty much done everything there is to offer.

Sports games for the same reasons I dislike sports in real life. I find them boring. I have owned a Tiger Woods and an NHL game, but having played them I don't really see the appeal in playing more. It's not like each one adds anything significantly different.

Racing games. For similar reasons to fighting games. Once you have done a couple of races, you have pretty much done all the game has to offer. It's just an exercise in repetition.

I imagine many people will love to quote me in how other games could be just as simplified, but you needn't bother seeing as I am not going to explain what genres I do like and why.
