I miss the days when people did fun things just because they were fun and not marks of status.
I miss the days when people could trust their neighbors.
I miss the days when the so-called "politically incorrect" were still called "assholes".
I miss the days when good character meant more than the contents of your wallet.
I miss the days when people actually gave a shit.
I miss chivalry.
I miss the days when not everything was a pointless pissing contest.
I miss my friends who will now be eternally too busy to ever hang out or do anything fun.
I miss the days when families, not just parents, actually disciplined their young children.
I miss my youthful innocence.
I miss the land of possibilities America used to be.
I miss the days when you didn't need 20 years of school just to have a snowball's chance in hell of earning a real living wage.
I miss the days when relationships were real life partnerships and not selfish Me-fests.
I miss the days when cars, cell phones, and other real unnecessaries became necessaries.
I miss the days when the first thing to come to mind in relationships with people was not "What can you do for me?"

I miss the good ol' days when you could confront someone for being an asshole and not get called a racist.

Oh, wait. THOSE DAYS NEVER EXISTED.

I had a couple friends stop talking to me because of that...

I don't miss them though. If they want to be that assholeish about it, so be it.
If they were anything like the many people I once called "friends" you're better off without them. Experience is the best teacher and all...
I thought of a few more.

I miss the days when a man could stand up for himself and not be punished or ridiculed.
I miss the days when parents still had time to parent their kids.
I miss the days when men were less preoccupied with their dicks, or at least were quieter about it.
I miss the days when holidays were a time to relax, have fun, and bond with your family rather than the commercialized nonsense they've become.
I miss the days when there were open spaces so kids could vent their energy and curiosity in a constructive way.

I miss the good old days of when this forum was an intimate community that didn't expand every day, filling itself with mindless posting of 'This has been done before' and junk to get badges.
We would communicate to get to know one another and share our opinions, back when we could easily recognize one another not scrubled by a sea of new users & mass popularity.
Back in the day when a new page to the roster of the Thread archive grew one every fortnight, not every day. Everything between May 2008 and September 2006 fits between pages 80-115. 1-80 is only the past few months.

There never were any "good old days". It is all just looking back on the past with rose colored glasses on with very thick lenses.

I miss a weathered old farmhouse with a white picket fence. I'm running through fields of alfalfa with my collie, Rex. Stop it, Rex! I see my mother standing on the back porch, in a worn but clean gingham gown, and I hear her calling out to me, "Alvin! Don't forget your chores. The wood needs a-cordin and the cows need a-milkin'. Alvin, Alvin..."

Who's gonna get the reference?
