Recently, a man called Anthony "Chocolate Finger" (I shit you not, that is his actual nickname) Ward purchased 240,000 tonnes of chocolate. That's 7% of the world's annual chocolate supply (if it were processed). Some believe that he is trying to corner the market on chocolate, with prices already hugely increased. Some companies have even stopped putting cocoa butter in their chocolate, and labeling it a "Chocolaty candy" instead of chocolate.

Should someone be able to buy 7% of the worlds chocolate? Should companies stop putting vegetable oil in chocolate instead of the right ingredients? Share your thoughts, or no chocolate for you.

That's why i only eat Cadbury products now on. When i found out that American chocolate can't hold a candle in comparison to British chocolate, I made the switch. The difference was apparent from my first bite of Dairy Milk. So regardless if someone buys 7% of the Chocolate (i am assuming the cocoa powder is what he is buying? or some other base form of chocolate) the companies that manufacture products that need cocoa to be finished are still going to adhere to the law of demand. Let him go bankrupt buying chocolate. As far as what other companies do to simulate chocolate candy, i say just stick with what you think is better tasting. But at the same time keep an open mind and explore different foods.

Sure, he should be able to buy it. He's not violating monopoly or trust laws.

However, screw you people, keep my cocoa butter, or it's not chocolate.

I live in Sweden, and here ALL chocolate contains cocoa, I think (we like our candy top notch, and no self respecting Swede would buy bad chocolate). Wether it contains cocoa butter or not, though, depends on the quality. Maybe that guy just decided to start his own chocolate making company.

Also, no, don't confuse Sweden with Switzerland. THEY are famous for chocolate, clocks, banks and knives and shit, we aren't.

I'm torn on this issue, since on one hand it's the nature of speculating money on the worlds markets, and that's the guy's job, but on the other hand it seems a bit wrong how these rich Western Hedge Fund Managers can directly affect the market of things like cocoa and coffee, which directly affects the jobs and futures of the people growing those crops in Africa... crops and products which are luxury foods and investment commodities to us, but are a way of life and a matter of survival for those Africans.

However, Anthony Ward does win +500 Internets for mentioning Eddie Murphy and Trading Places in an official interview, and as long as he doesn't affect my supply of proper chocolate, he can keep those Internets.
