I've done a quick search and I'm very disappointed to see that no-one has beaten me to this.

Earlier today, CERN announced that they have officially discovered a new boson in the region of 125 GeV which they think is either the Higgs or some variation of it. Atlas measured it with 5 sigma error, which is the benchmark for it being an official discovery, and it has also been detected by the CMS detector and the tevatron at lower sigma values.

Now I know what you're thinking; this is great news but where is the discussion value?

So on that note, erm, well, for starters, what do you guys think they should look at next? Are you hoping it is the Standard Model Higgs, or something more exotic? Do you think its all a waste of money that should be spent building Mars bases (or hospitals, whatever).

And finally, will you be joining me in raising a toast, For Science!

Edit: okay, a longer search has determined that I have in fact been beaten to this by several people. oops.
