The hunt for sniping.

Well, long story short, I got on my PS3, put in BF3, and EA says that I need an online pass to play multiplayer. I've already used the one that came with the disc and have been playing on the same account for a few months now so basically it's just been dropped outta the system for some reason.

Anyways, it's time to move on.

BO2's maps are too small. My computer's not good enough for hardly anything above a flash game. I'm trying to find a game that has decent servers (private servers are a plus) and sniping as in long range, bullet travel delay, quote unquote realistic sniping. Right now I'm waiting for DayZ to put something on a console but was wondering if any of you had suggestions.

I doubt the server has...well....anyone on it but Sniper Elite single player might be right up your alley. I adored this game on the PS2 and I've heard the 360/PS3 re-release it just as good.

As to multi-player on the console, there really isn't that much and nothing I can think of looking at my library. Call of Duty basically got rid of sniping with their level design. Battlefield is really the only game that I can think of with the sniping mechanics you want that would not be a ghost town.

Sniper Elite V2.

Pretty much everything someone who likes sniping games needs. You have to take into account bullet drop, wind, your own breathing and heart rate.

It's only $20 as well at this point.

Agreed with tippy and Dirty Hipsters - Sniper ELite V2 should fulfill your sniping needs. They also just released the "Silver Star" version of the game that has all of the DLC included (including where you kill Hitler because yay revisionist history).

Also, if you're looking for a game to lose about a solid week into, Borderlands 2. Just something immensely satisfying shooting an enemy with a corrosive shot from across a field and watch them slowly melt to death, screaming all the way. *eyetwitch*

Sniper Elite V2's description makes my inner gun geek squeal, I really need to find somebody to play it with. The game could be complete arse otherwise as long as I can pick off Hitler from 200 yards with a 91/30. Apparently I will still be getting use out of my 360.

On the less realistic front, I have spent a godawful amount of time wandering the desert with a sniper rifle and an overblown stealth skill in New Vegas. The right perks makes the whole setup so gloriously overpowered that I don't even need armor ^^

The original Sniper Elite is also enjoyable for sniping. Also, there is a game called Sniper Ghost Warrior - do not pick it up - it's not really enjoyable.

I know that there is a lot of mixed sentiment towards Farcry 2, but I have found that it does play well as a sniper game.

Perhaps you might like to insert it into your platform of choice.

Pity you don't have a PC as I'd recommend Red Orchestra 2, that game has a great feel to the rifles and the maps are often massive.

I've tried Sniper Elite both first and second, and niether were terribly good. The sniping was always really gimmicky. I want a game that reward patience, more sneaking, and taking out, say, a single hard-to-hit target. Sniping games these days seem to think that players will get bored if you don't Sam Fisher your way through a level.
