I sometimes like to think the internet not as a series of tubes, but as a vast desert, with towns and the dirty bars spread through out. I figured some one would bring this up, and yes I know about the map on XKCD, I just like to think that if, ho say, an important member of the escapist forms were to go away, they would wonder of into the desert of the internet, looking for another town(4 Chan city maybe.) Am I the only person who thinks like this? Any other ideas of what the internet is(not a series of tubes)? Maybe a giant ocean with floating barges and towns. Or perhaps a great forest type area.
