The Internet in 3D!

It've got that feeling its going to be like the internet all over again: Everyone goes on about how it will advance the human race, then it gets all corrupted with sex, piracy and popup ads and finally we end up with 4chan. Except we alrady have that and now its 3D.

Just tried getting to this thread. It turns the escapist into a nightmarish abstract prison where every door only leads to more doors.

It would be fun. But what if you want to quickly check your facebook, you would have to run alllll the way to the other side of Internet plaza! Its a fun gimmic, but unless they keep the address bar, and an option to close the 3d stuff to conserve time and bandwith, count me out.
Keeping in mind that this is really just the internet applied to a videogame format, I really don't see the use as things are now. Maybe there is some great application of this technology that will revolutionize our lives, but I don't think it exists as yet.
That said, I might try it out at some point. It's only available in Australia now, is that right?

I don't want to have to walk over to the search box before I can type something in it, and if it allows me to type something in without walking over to it, what's the purpose of being able to walk? 
It seems gimmicky and overcomplicated (User reads screen about avatar reading screen about avatar reading screen etc...), but the comment about Otherland (and I would add Neal Stephenson's Black Sun to the mix) does make it enticing to try out for a grin nonetheless.

Aside from certain users' avatars being awesome, this is largely inaccessible for forums or text-based pages. Probably be great for image galleries, if I didn't lag like crazy, but it's a kinda neat idea.
Ultimately, I'd like to see browsers more stream-lined, not bogged down.
One day, when they make the 'net for 3D, then they can call me back. By then, the umpteen-core processor, 2 TB of RAM, and 500 TB flash-drive 100 PB will run this just fine.
Yeah, but webadmins can change the way a website looks, which is why they ask if you're an admin or not. Also, you can watch videos in it, without popping up a new screen.JinxyKatte post=18.71780.737846 said:
