Well, Actually... Yeah.

Don't believe it. Something like a shotgun is something you would have locked up. You don't leave stuff like that just lying around your house in the open unless you're extremely careless.

My shotgun is in a zip-up case next to the desk, with no kind of lock at all.

Still not going to deny it's a silly place to leave it. It would be much safer locked up in some kind of cabnet, but it's your house do what you want.

EDIT: Left is a 6ft tall lamp, also kinda heavy and has a bit of reach to it. If it gets me upstairs, I'll be happy and have some actual firepower.
