Yup, It's Batman. 'nother thread about TDKR. More of a question than a statement: If Heath Ledger were still alive, Would he have made an appearance as the joker in TDKR? What rle could he have fulfilled, if any?

I personally think he would have, in a similar manner to the scarecrow, perhaps put in charge of Arkham Asylum or something equally insane.

What does it matter? There are so many 'what ifs' and 'could have beens' that trying to speculate over the whole thing is pointless. He isn't still alive. He died. And out of that, we got TDKR with Bane as the main antagonist. That was the film Nolan wanted to make, so that's what we got.

You may as well ask "Hey guys, what film would Nolan have made if he hadn't made TDKR?" How the heck should we know, and what's the point in speculating anyway?
You must be great at parties.

Sometimes I like to imagine a scene where Bane or his mooks are contemplating letting the Joker out of his cage at Arkham, and swiftly deciding against it.

Or maybe he'd be where the scarecrow was, running the kangaroo court.

I think a scene with Bane and the Joker having a little chat in his cell would be hilarious, probably ending with Bane punching Joker in the face.

I just don't see the point. We have no idea what Nolan would have done if Ledger were alive. There are so many variables, it's like asking what Einstein would do if he were alive today. If he were alive, we wouldn't have gotten The Dark Knight Rises. We'd have gotten some other Batman film, possibly with the Joker in it, possibly with Bane in it, but probably very different from what we got in the end. How can you possibly say anymore than that? We can't see into Nolan's mind, and we've got no idea what he would have had planned for the character.

Sorry, but stuff like this just strikes me as kind of navel gazing. A lot of talking and debating about not very much at all.
It's okay man, I get it.

You know that you don't need to post in a thread if you find the premise to be ridiculous, right? There's nothing forcing you to read this thread, respond to posts, or anything. If you're not going to add anything productive to the discussion and say that you think the thread is pointless, why post at all?

Besides, this is an internet forum focused on 'nerd' culture. Practically everything we debate (outside of the occasional topic in R&P) is about "not very much at all".

OT: I think if Heath Ledger hadn't passed away the third film would've had the Joker as a main villain again, or at least a significant cameo. The line from Dark Knight - "I think you and I are destined to do this forever" - sounds as much like a prediction of the next film as a call-back to how long Joker has been Batman's "main" nemesis.

The early story plans had him playing a fairly major role in TDKR's story.

Obviously, those had to be scrapped. But he was going to be in it, and not just with a cameo.

Bro chill. You a killjoy everywhere you go?

OT: I would certainly hope so, cameo or not.

It would have been interesting. Joker stated in the TDK that he wouldn't kill Batman because he was too much fun. As such, he probably would not have been on Bane's side. So either we'd have some sort of three way fight going on, some bizarre set of circumstances where he helps The Bat or Bane would do the smart thing and leave his insane ass locked up after he had what would have probably been a hilarious conversation with him.

He probably would be in a camoe (like Cillian Murphy) if he was still alive instead of dying like an idiot (and before any Ledger-fans jump on me, dying from drug abuse is an idiotic way to die).

The movie was pretty average, so it definetly wouldn't have saved it
He didn't die of drug abuse. He died because He had two doctors not in communication with each other prescribing him two different sets of sleeping pills and telling him to take them in a specific routine every day. The fact they weren't in communication was not his fault, and he didn't die of drug abuse. Before you make statements please check your facts.

I'm sorry man, tell you what, to make it up to you, I'll have my guy pointing the shotgun at your head ease his grip next time I get him to force you into posting on topics you don't like.

He was supposed to play a major part. I'm pretty sure I heard somewhere he was going to be the main antagonist again.
