The "JX23 Scandal"

Hey everyone,

I don't know if you've heard of what's gone on with the Youtube Commentator JX23 but basically here goes.

I personally don't have a strong opinion either way. I realise that speaking definitively in terms of the law, he did break the law in what he did. But there's also the issue of the girls not blocking him, consciously accepting the pictures etc. I think all this serves to highlight how weird the law (especially British) law in all this is, and how divided people can become about an issue like this.

So what's your opinions? By the way, let's keep it clean yeah? We're Escapists, not arseholes.

Ok he broke the law but then again in the sense that the girls didn't block him or try to stop him so no harm done on one side you have the law and on the other you have the poeple who this was actually about. personally i'm going in favour of this guy the govenrment here is basiclly invading his private life and jailing him for trying to live his life outside the boundries that they have placed for him

Totally this. Only on the internet (and within organizations such as NAMBLA) is this the subject of debate. The fact that the girls willingly accepted skype requests from him doesn't make them consenting adults.

The men I've known who have pursued, dated and slept with minors, whether they met them in person or on the internet, all have one common thread: they don't feel that they can persuade a grown woman with an adult's sense of herself to suck their dick, so they try to go after vulnerable children. That the laws are just feels redundant to say so. I don't feel any better for this guy than I do a date rapist.

Clearly some people didn't read the last line in my OP...

EDIT: To anyone who is saying it's legal because the legal limit in the UK is 16. That's not entirely accurate. To have sexual contact (having sex, oral etc) is fine. However being incited to send or receive indecent images (like the ones JX23 sent and those he asked for off the girls) is illegal up to 18 as that comes under the rules of pornography. Like I said, weird laws. My friend said it best, the last time the Sexual Offenses Act was revised was 2003, before the social media and connectivity we see today even thought about taking off; so the law is incredibly disparate in relevance to the act today. It could do with a revision.
