Well since I'm going to college next year and since dorms are notorious for space I was thinking about a kindle to have pleasure books instead of, well, books. However I don't really know much about them other than their basic premise or anyone who can personally recommend them.

So anyways,
Do you have one?
Do you like it?
Nicest feature?
Most annoying setback?
Does it do anything other than have books on it?
Would it be worth it for me to get one?
If you have a similar product, do you recommend that instead?

don't own one, but they do seem like a good idea if you read a lot of novels. I'd buy one if I could afford one.

I don't have one either, but if you like to read lots of books, and since you are going to be in a dorm, I think it is a good idea. Books are fairly cheap for them, and you can basically get them wherever you have wireless internet, so I say get one.

I prefer the feel of a real book.
I think everyone prefers real books, but I'm pretty sure it's not really an option in college. Unless you do the library, but I'm also strange in that I like to know that the book is mine and that I'll have it after 2 weeks. That and hard copies are so fucking expensive. I wish real books had a nearly universal flat rate of $10 for paperbacks.

I saw on tv an author who kept his book off of kindle because he was afraid that books would start getting illegally downloaded just like music. Its possible that all authors may do this eventually but not likely. So i'd say go ahead and get it.

The main thing keeping me from buying a kindle is the fact that they make you get all your books through amazon. So you can only read books that amazon has, and you can't get any books off your computer (you can only send them to Amazon who will charge you for conversion).

Other than that, I really like the sound of the screen and how it only draws power when it changes and really looks like paper, meaning you also get great battery life.

I have heard people say it takes a full second to turn pages though, so this could break your reading pace.

But if you need a portable ebook reader the Kindle is probably the best out there.

Personally I'm waiting for the next generation, and greater competition.

A small electronic device isn't as impressive as several bookshelves of read books.
