Well I think it sounds good. Uncharted 2 and 3 both have good MP, so I trust Naughty Dog. It's not like this is their first foray into multiplayer.

Supply Raid sounds kind of interesting, but Survivor just sounds like an extremely slow version of Last Man Standing.
Oh no, Supply Raid sounds terrible. Shared pool of 20 lives? A good deal of the time, you're going to have one selfish, incompetent bastard who charges in guns blazing and loses half of those before you can blink.

And then Survivor does indeed sound like it'll be slow and dull.

So, this is originality in multiplayer, huh? Dang.

"Since when did this game have multiplayer?" - Everyone in this thread.
"Since the game started development" - Naughty Dog.
"Okay, but why are we only hearing about it now?" - Everyone in this thread.
"You're not. We announced the multiplayer last year" - Naughty Dog.

Seriously, I understand how the industry has conditioned us to hate multiplayer in games, but in this case, the hate is unjustified. Naughty Dog knows what they're doing, they've proven in the past that they can do decent multiplayer, and not only that, they're SCE's biggest western studio after Sony Santa Monica, and this is the PS3's biggest game this year, and probably the PS3's last big exclusive since the PS4 is around the corner. Sony is likely throwing damn near unlimited money into this game, so if Naughty Dog wants a multiplayer, they're gonna get a multiplayer.

Naughty Dog proved they can't make a good multiplayer with both Uncharted 2 and Uncharted 3. The competitive multiplayer sucks because Naughty Dog isn't good at making a 3rd-person shooter, the controls aren't nearly good enough to work in a competitive environment. The co-op was way better in Uncharted 2.

For those who are interested, here is the multiplayer trailer:

And here's some extra leaked gameplay (360p and in spanish though)

OT: Personally, I think this sounds very interesting. 2 modes that both fit the tone and gameplay themes of the single player story.

Comparing this to Tomb Raider's multiplayer, I am okay with this. What bothered me so much about Tomb Raider's mp wasn't that it existed or how 'tacked-on' it was, but how its focus was steeped towards action packed shootouts. I thought that it felt against the themes of the single player game of isolation and survival, the modes felt profoundly "gamey" with it's TDM and CTF-like modes.

In the Last of Us, the 2 modes so far make sense within the universe. Even if one of them is a TDM mode, the single-life limit plus the emphasis on stealth and scavenging while surviving against the other scavenger groups isn't very far from what happens in the story. Having a very limited supply of ammo and items, having only one life, no regenerating health, and being very vulnerable to death constantly. It sounds great to me.

I'd like to see more of the supply raid though, since I favor coop modes and all.

After playing the demo, I can't wait for this game to come out. Not much longer now :D

People seem to have forgotten the story Escapist did back in December where Arne Meyer of Naughty Dog talked about multiplayer.

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/121031-Naughty-Dog-Defends-The-Last-of-Us-Multiplayer

According to him, this isn't tacked on. It's been the plan from the start. Single and multiplayer have had had different teams from the start. They're doing it because they like it and they want to.

People react to things much too hastily, sometimes.

I seriously had no problem with it whatsoever. The controls were smoothened out in multiplayer and I had a blast run and gunning people and face punching 'm.

Not so sure how I feel about the regular old survival mode (One life? I smell camping. Valid, but not exactly exciting) but that "Supply Raid" Mode? I actually think that feels like it would be fun with a group of friends.

I wouldn't call this tacked on, they seem to be trying to at least stay true to the world the game takes place in, With a much heavier focus on not being dead.

Yay. MP crowbarred pointlessly into yet another game.
Are there not multi player server stats out there to show devs/pubs that this is a waste of money?

I'm a hardcore TPS player and Uncharted's controls are just so bad. Firstly, circle for both roll and cover has never worked, I don't understand why they haven't fixed that (even Susan complains about how bad it is in her review on here). Second, the shoulder swap is horribly implemented. The game defaults you to aiming over your right shoulder every time you L1 aim so a person going to their right has an unfair advantage to an enemy player that is going to their left. Third, the camera sensitivity can't be adjusted in any of the Uncharted games, that is just a HUGE NO-NO for any shooter, especially for a TPS. In a TPS, you aim with the free look camera and Uncharted's camera is so damn sluggish; if someone is shooting me from the back, I can't turn the camera nearly fast enough. Lastly, Naughty Dog ends up nerfing anything that lets you kill at range. In Uncharted 2, they nerfed the Down the Irons booster so that the booster was useless. Someone actually did a test and found that L1 aiming was less accurate than blindfiring, why would you make aiming less accurate than not aiming. Then, in Uncharted 3 that I just tried again recently because it went free to play (and I sold my game a year ago), Naughty Dog nerfed both guns (the G-MAL and the FAL) that let you kill at range. It's like Naughty Dog doesn't want aiming skill to factor into the multiplayer, they want everyone blindfiring and using power weapons to kill. Have you ever played against the top Uncharted 2 players? All they do is constantly bunny hop. You can overlook some of that stuff for single player and co-op, but in competitive multiplayer, it makes the game unplayable.

Who knows it may end up being really good multiplayer. Judging by the trailer it looks as though there will be a reliance on taking thinks slow, making life and death decisions, and overall a new kind of intense competitive multiplayer....... or it could just be more run and gun "gotta get a good K/D!" waste of game funding nonsense. If that happens i'll strictly stick to playing the already superior looking single player. And to think...

if they dropped multiplayer and put all their work into a campaign driven game... that would be golden.

Oh wait... "but the CHART says!" mentality is still being passed around this industry. Great.

Considering the SP is 17+ hours based on various reviews. You could hardly argue that it's not campaign driven.

As far as I saw in reviews, Multiplayer isn't up yet. Since there is still an entire week before release.
