Don't care. Not wasting my life on shows I don't like. You do and like whatever. I watch what only interests me. Not what's "hot/everbody is watching!". A majority of modern/current Isekai shows have 0 appeal, because they're just copying each other horribly and boringly. Get over yourself and learn that not everybody likes the same thing you like and vice versa. Life moves on and there is no need to be a butt-hurt child about it. Be an actual adult and learn to accept. If you can't, then we definitely have nothing left to discuss on this matter.

Last year I discovered and know why I love isekai like El Hazard: The Magnificent World, ELH: The Wanderers, Monster Rancher, Digimon Adventure (even 02, Tamers [when they go to the digital world in the second half], and Frontiers) so much. They have something many modern isekai lack: a sense of actual wonder, discovery, and most importantly, the adventure itself. Many isekai today are just too corporate driven and copies of a copy, copying another copy that's ultra derivative. Nearly everything else feels flat, all glitter, no soul, or is just another lame and cardboard cut out harem with nothing else going on.

The only good isekai are:

  • Digimon Seasons 1-4. Digimon, in general, but I haven't kept up with the newer shows.
  • Escaflowne
  • Monster Rancher
  • El Hazard OVA 1 & 2, and the AU TV series.
  • Owl House
  • Amphibia
Everything else is either bad, boring, senseless shafts, or copies of a copy of another copy that's already crappy to begin with. This is a genre within subgenres. That is already oversaturated, and they just let anybody in at this point. It's been that way for a good long while now.
I thought Konosuba was okay.

I’ve been trying to find those, but they’re wallet buggeringly expensive. I need to try more used book stores and markets.
Amazon has most of the books cheap, even at new price. I do suggests getting the mass paperback or the book trilogy on paper back. They got the latter on sale for a cheap price.

Huh. I forgot about the Splinter Cell animation, which is apparently decent. I should watch it after exams.

Watched the first two episodes of Smiling Friends Season 3 and Ranma 1/2 Season 2.

Smiling Friends is usually good at pulling off short, rushed episodes (12 minutes, including credits) since the stories are somewhere between fevered and demented and they're shooting for that kind of pacing. I think it's beginning to wear on me though. Especially when the "B-plot" takes up like half the episode. Conversely, episode 2 nets one of the funniest/darkest scenes in the show so far, and all it took was some breathing room.

Ranma 1/2 still works really well as a farce and remains as horny and ribald as I remember, at least by shonen standards. I guess the Netflix show has less filler and tends to get to the point. I do love all these silly characters though. And I like the little creative flairs, like how every episode kicks off with the narrator recapping the premise of the show with a different gag or style of TV.

It sucks that the Teen Titans always had to be in costume.

I don't know if I remembered from my childhood that
Red X is Robin or if it was just so obvious. He chases Slade after his identity is found out and in the very next scene he is dressed as the bird again. Should have fought Slade in black.

Watched the first two episodes of Ha Ha, You Clowns.

It's the Smiling Friends story all over again: Adult Swim poaches some YouTuber with a built-in fanbase to produce a series of grotesque, low-quality 10 minute fever dreams.

The premise here is there's three brothers, all of them interchangeably Jack Reacher-sized and sounding like SNL's CaLiFoRnIaNs, who live with their widower father and they keep trying to cheer up in a number of ways, like getting him to stay up for movie night or trying to make him go viral at work (he's a weatherman).

It's all fairly grounded, there're no sudden bursts of violence and the plot never swerves dramatically. I guess the joke is that something that looks so crude and sounds so dumb would have any heart to it and I can't decide how earnest or cynical the series is trying to be.

EDIT: Gosh that new season of One Punch Man sure is something.

Something bad! Ho ho ho!

This was never going to end up well. That arc of the manga is so stupidly, epicly over the top, they could've gotten every animation studio in Japan to work on it and it still would've fallen short.

Eh, I don't know. While this section of the manga does get pretty wild, I'm pretty sure with the right people in charge something great could have been done, especially these days. Now, I'm very much not an avid anime consumer but even since the first season (10 years ago now, Jesus...) there have have been some pretty great adaptations, like Castlevania, Delicious In Dungeon/Dungeon Meshi (god I hope Netflix nuts up and we get a western physical release), or even hilariously enough, all three seasons of Mob Psycho.

Ah well, for as dirty as the anime has been done, both the manga* and original web comic continue to drop banger after banger;
