I was on... Car sites to look at pictures of... World maps then I got a virus that kept prompting me to buy... life insurance. It was hell trying to get rid of it.

WHAT!?!? A virus passed Avast? no shuch thing has ever happened!! (ok maybe avast isn't that good, but i like it xD)

Never had a virus, there have been two occasions where I have come in contact with a virus (whilst downloading files / browsing etc...) but my anti-virus took care of them before they got loose ^^

Oh, wait... you mean a computer virus. Right. Never had one.

btw any of those virus stories would be welcomed for a purely medical viewpoint. Not that creepy 'know-every-thing-about-you' business.

Nuked the hard drive. Put it back to factory settings.

Only way to get rid of it, and I have no idea how it got there in the first place.

That is a computer virus not the other kind that, well you know. I am on my gf's archaic laptop right now because mine's in the shop. I tried watching MAG gameplay on game trailers and thats when I got one. I'm suspecting a xbox fanboy somehow put it on the site to punish the ps fanboys. I'm neither, We are gamers, We should be as one.
Download and run Malwarebytes.
Install Anti-virus (avg 9.0)and run a scan in safe mode.
Dont use internet explorer
Dont run your browser as administrator.

I deleted the map from which I believed it to have originated. Didn't work, I couldn't delete it. SO I called in the Norman quarantine squad to completely isolate it and then I took great pleasure in DELETING THE FUCK OUT OF IT. Then I let Norman perform one big sweep on my computer, frizzing some little hidden motherfuckers in the process.

It was a reasonably harmless Trojan, I believe, as I was able to keep the same settings and did not have to nuke anything. I'm not a virus buff so I wouldn't know really. All I know is that I got rid of it.

Freaked out and lit my house on fire.

What I really did was send the computer that was broken to my uncle to wipe it clean and move the bedroom computer to the living room with the internet.
Intill it got fixed, what happen was the computer kept insiting that whatever website I wanted to go was wrong and would redirct me to porn or some book website.

I get the works every few days(Trojans, malware, worms etc), but I have something called Rollback, which restores Windows back to settings that are set every few days. If I didn't have it, this laptop would be either in a shop or a landfill right now.

The last virus I got Avast! Noticed and even with both Avast and Malware bytes I could not get rid of it, and it eventually destabilized my OS and I had to reformat:/

Seriously, if you get a virus so bad that you need to take your computer to a shop, you fail at life.

Theres plenty of very good free software available on the internet and it's usually clear as day whether a site/link/download is malicious.

I did what I do with all my problems. I ran away, and later denied any knowledge of a problem before blaming it on someone else.
