Space battles. With REAL flight controls. I was sold when I saw that. I played the first one to death--got the platinum and all the DLC trophies--and I fully admit that the game was lacking in almost every way. It looked pretty and sounded great, but even with all the DLC added in, the game was still shallow to a fault.

So yeah, this game does look like everything the first one should have been. Does that make me mad? A little, yes. But I am still getting this game because it looks like the game that I have always wanted to play.
Hell, if they just made a space battle game I would just straight up buy that.

The only reservation I have is playing as an Imperial Fanatic in the single player. This is a woman who thinks that Alderaan's destruction was the Rebels' fault, and that wholesale slaughter is justified. She is not a good person, and I don't care how much they try to explain her, I don't like her and I'm really hoping she bites it at the end of the campaign, although I doubt it.

Have you read the comments section for any given Star Wars-related video on YouTube? A number of fans express such pro-Imperial perspectives, to the point where I get the uncomfortable feeling that some of them aren't joking. I mean, the films make it pretty darn obvious that the Empire and First Order are evil, yet apparently some people can't grasp that. I don't know, maybe it's cognitive dissonance resulting from trying to project post-9/11 world views onto a series rooted in WW2 imagery and themes.

Don't get me wrong, I love to indulge in the dark side from time to time with the Empire (Tie Fighter is my favorite Star Wars game), but I'm always mindful that they're essentially Space Nazis ruled by a cackling sadist with a monster face.

Hey, you never know. We've had one major movie release about a suicide mission, and everyone in the Rebels show (At least all the force users) is doomed to die at it's conclusion. If they're willing to all the good guys, I don't see why they wouldn't kill a Space SS Officer.

She also doesn't seem to show up in any of the post-Palpatine novels, and pretty much EVERYONE who's alive shows up in those.

the first game was faliure. dont know why the are bothering with sequel but with tack on SP campaign to feature female protagonist to apeal feminist.
...because any female character is appealing to feminists.

By your own logic, any male character is appealing to men's rights activists.
In this case it's appealing to feminists since the protagonists have historically been more often male. And -isms didn't exist before 2010, obviously.

Oh, I stay away from YouTube comments in general, Star Wars or no, because of what you just said.

Now granted, I do believe that there can be good people in the Empire. Mara Jade was a prime example. I'm sure there are Stormtroopers out there that are decent people as well and just need a paycheck out on the barren planet that they grew up on. Twilight Company showed one of them. And I'm sure there are even those that truly think they're doing the right thing, but when faced with Alderaan, they realize "Maybe I am on the wrong side..." and start to doubt. I'm fine with all of that.

But a new campaign trailer was just released today and it made my skin crawl to be thinking I'm supposed to play as this woman. The way she smirks when she says "Hope", the way she jumps right in to the new missions, the way she's just ready to go out there and kill anyone who dares to even question the Empire. And her father is no better. And how much do you want to bet that Operation Cinder is a Scorched Earth policy, and she's going to be all too happy to burn entire planets to ash.
At the end, when he father says, "Go do what you do best," I couldn't help but think, 'And what's that? Murder people that just want to be free from your oppression and can't defend themselves?'
This is not a Mara Jade character. This is a Tarkin character, or an Emperor character. This is a woman who is evil, and believes that it's okay.

I don't really see the problem in playing a character like that everyone once in a while, particularly in a Star Wars game, where the standard gamut of protagonist runs from 'Reluctant Hero With A Good Heart' to 'So Good It'll Make You Sick, Like You Just Ate Four Pounds Of Sugar.'

Hell, 'Tarkin Character' is probably the most attractive description I've heard about this game.
