Learning that Isaac was actually going to talk in Dead Space 2. I mean, I was already kind of interested in the game because I'd enjoyed the original, but the thing that really made me want to buy it was that bit of news in particular. The fact that Isaac was silent in Dead Space 1 was definitely my least favourite aspect of the game, mostly because the game seemed to be trying to make him a sympathetic character at the same time. He was basically trying to be both Gordon Freeman and James Sunderland at the same time, and utterly failing at everything that made those two characters good in their respective fields as a result. If they'd left him silent, I might have still bought the sequel, but only after a hefty price drop, and maybe even used. As it stands, I wound up pre-ordering the Collector's Edition, and now I count Dead Space 2 as one of my favourite games of all time and Isaac Clarke as one of my favourite fictional characters of all time.
