I'm kind of surprised that I couldn't find anything about this with the search bar.. Maybe i didn't go down far enough but anyway.
So Yahtzee, Pras Moorthy and Yug are opening a new club/bar on the main strip in Fortitude Valley Brisbane Australia Called the "Mana Bar".

Expected to be opening this month the "Mana Bar" will be hoping to host game launch nights, local developer showcases, industry events, live podcasts and gaming trivia nights.

"our vision is for somewhere that won't ever be confused with an Internet Cafe or a LAN Venue. This will not be overly geeky. It will be somewhere that is still cool and enticing to anyone walking past on the street." (Guy "Yug" Bloomberg) http://www.australiangamer.com/news/2191_the_mana_bar.html

With a "whole bunch" of HDTV's along the walls sporting playably video games and a game store behind the bar, (sure to be a nice money maker) the "Mana bar" is looking like a good place to get your drink/game on in Brizzy.

The official site http://www.manabar.com.au Not really sporting much info yet but I know I'll be staying tuned.

If I am ever in Australia, I will have to stop by there.
Fat chance of that happening but you never know...

Seems like a pretty good idea, kinda like a nerdy sports bar. You never know, could catch on, starting to see Wii's popping up in bars etc so theres definitely a market there.

They could even sell mana potions, if they wanted. http://www.geekologie.com/2008/02/mana_potion_an_energy_drink_fo.php

My town has something slightly similar. There's no bar, but there are fifteen PCs, three Xbox 360 consoles, a Wii, three HD Televisions, and an HD projector, as well as various food and drink.

This gaming center I'm talking about used to sell these, but they were in wimpy plastic bottles. My friend bought two, put one in a glass bottle (with a cork!) and gave it to me as a gift. I didn't want the drink to spoil, so I drank it and replaced the liquid with blue colored water. I personally think it was excellent, but I wouldn't buy them myself.

I care why?

Also why are you advertising this?

Also why would I want to go to a bar to play video games? That's like going to a bar where everyone sits in the corner and listens to their Ipods.

Also just because you add video games to something doesn't mean you are suddenly going to tap into some magical bottomless pit of marketing potential. EX. "gaming" enery drinks, "gaming" razors, "gaming" deodorant, Adding "gaming" to it isn't going to make people suddenly buy it just because they play games.

Also this isn't automatically a good idea or a cool thing just because yatzee is involved.
Well someone here doesnt like Yahtzee. I laughed at the ipod joke though.

OT: Id go there just to say i did. It seems like a cool idea but honestly.......meh. making a round world trip to visit a small bar....

There is a mana bar in my city. It has nothing to do with games or mana, it's just dingy little shithole that I will never go to again.

Ok, coolio.
I wonder if his bar will be bright eye searing yellow like the ZP theme on the PS3.
Either way I doubt I'd ever go there as I'd probably never find it and I'd probably do other things whilst in Australia (Like bug Joe or Lacoil).

I watch ZP every week, and I already work in Fortitude Valley as a Bar Supervisor. I hereby throw my name in to the ring as a bartender.

The drinking age in Australia is 18. No need to wait until you're 21.
yeah but I won't have enough money to go till after college
when I have a good job and such

For anyone interested (ie, people in Brisbane), I've looked up the actual location of it, it's 420 Brunswick Street, in the spot of the old Mango Bar, in the same building as the Judith Wright Centre.

I will certainly be there when it opens.
