Holy shit, SAXTON HALE ALERT!

Basically along with releasing the amazingly awesome looking polycount pack items, they're also changing it so that you can purchase any of the extra items available in TF2 through the "Steam wallet system", that might sound pretty gay but at least they're still making everything earnable through gameplay, buying it is just a "shortcut" really, I can't really see myself using it but I don't grudge Valve making some money through TF2 given the amount of free support they've given it over the years. Oh and the cool thing is community item contributors will be able to sell any of their items that get put in the game and get a share of whatever profits Valve make from them, almost like the model Apple and Google use for their smartphone app-stores.

That pyro's hammer looks sweet... :p

**EDIT**

Oh yeah, and item trading, doubling the size of backpacks, and item customization! :D

Man, now I really, really wish Steam would let me install the damn game.

Do hamsters run the Steam servers, or what? Is TF2 supported by a single server?
Whatever the cause, I'll check out the microtransactions as soon as I get it fixed.

Slightly more negative, but Funk seems to think it's a good idea. We'll see what the reactions are from the community, though.

Some of the items have really cool effect, something like the scout's mad milk is so insanely useful especially considering you'd probably be able to full heal yourself when pointblanking another person with the scatter gun. Though I'm a bit confused as how you're supposed to wear all 4 pieces, I guess with that set you only get to use a pistol instead of a scatter gun/ force of nature? Also why no special effects for the fish? Oh well.
Some sets are interesting like the sniper not being able to be hit by a headshot, but at the same time not being able to use a headshot either. Kinda seems meh since it's just going to enforce bad sniper body shots and just take a lot of the bigger classes off your kill list, like heavies.
I love the spy dagger, sure you can't disguise off the bat, but pretty sweet to be able to rapid disguise to the person you just killed.

I am really disheartened to see valve use micro-transactions. They unbalance and upset games, making them trashy.

Can't wait to find out what the real items are like...

As I believe this "Update" page is just to make everyone more impatient...

looking forward to trying the new sniper set: it seems more a close combat oriented set up (hit with the jarate sniper rifle and then get crits instead of minis with the knife) and the spy's knife looks really good and it's special seems useful. As for the micro transactions, i think they're a good idea for valve and won't really impact the game in the long term (you'll just see people getting the new drops quicker)

I still don't see how it could unbalance the game when everyone gets access to exactly the same things whether they pay money or not. =s

Its not really such a big deal if you can buy the items or not. Everything can still be found through random drops, and excluding a few cases, none of the weapons are really "better" than any other weapons. Its more based on personal preference.

Yeah, the SPUF community has been agitating for these for a fair while. I love how VALVe ignores the stupid ideas and accepts the good ones!

These micro-transactions are actually more fair than the system that was in place.

Next time, just say "DAMMIT NINJA'D". That's all of your sentence in 2 words.

OT: I can still see idiots whining and complaining about not being able to get an item because VALVe made it so rare that you can only either craft it or buy it.

I'm really liking the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy reference with the Scout's fish thing, as well as the Aladdin reference with the Spy's "Eternal Reward"

Its slow because everyone is downloading the update and going on the game all at once. This happens whenever a TF2 update happens.

OT: Looks neat, although the sniper unlocks seem rather stupid. An "immunity to headshots" buff? A sniper that can't headshot? Wut?

Its like they're trying to make a "battle sniper", which I think is rather silly.

Everything is still "findable". This is a good addition to the game. If you have some extra cash and don't want to wait for an item? Then buy it. Don't want to buy it? Then wait for the item.

It's alot better than Blizzard servers, i get around 1.2 Mb/s on steam. Around 400 Kb/s on Blizzard... So yeah, there's that.
