I was just watching A Night at the Opera and a Day at the Races and I found them hilarious!

Why don't movies these days have comedy like that?

They play marx brothers on a projection screen occasionally at a pub I frequent. Its pretty awsome, especially when your drunk and momentarily have noone to talk to.

It's all about Duck Soup. The scene with the "mirror" is one of my favorite scenes from any movie.

i think it's because people are smart enough to enjoy that type of comedy, too many people need a big sign pointing to the joke, hence why south park is a very popular type of comedy show

put it against the humour of the Simpsons or the Marx Brothers and it doesn't hold a candle and you can see how bad today's comedy is

A Night at the Opera? That was them acting relatively sane! You wanna see true Marx Brothers genius and anarchy, you need to see Duck Soup, the best one of their films I've seen! You feel like you've had a few too many when you watch it. It was their last film with Paramount, before they moved to MGM, so they go completely nuts.

People like to pretend they are sane, so they look down on everything that doesn´t seem to make any sense. The comedy of Marx Brothers defies everything rational and commonplace; It´s anarchy. Perhaps that particular form of anarchy has become too old to appeal today. Nowadays we have punk and...well, something ambiguous and post-modern, I guess. It´s sad, really. Groucho is my source of preposterous inspiration, together with Monty Python.

I´m glad you like them too, Merteg. You can´t be a completely bad person.
