So I've been playing a bit of the MCC since I can't play Warlords right now (login times due to playing a High Pop realm) and I have to say I'm enjoying it. The ability to play Halo in HD at 60FPS is glorious. I still consider Halo 2 to be the weakest game of the original trilogy, even in Anniv. Edition.

But damn, the ability to play Halo 3 in glorious HD+60FPS is amazing. I also find it kind of funny how BAD the original trilogy shows up Halo: Reach and Halo 4 - Halo 4 is just so laughable compared to Halo 3/2/CE now that they're in HD+60FPS.

I'm loving it right now, though Warlords is taking up my not-revising time. Though they have committed one massive sin on Halo 2 at least: why the fuck did they change the music? I was miffed during the normal missions when they added layers and layers on the original track. I was a tad annoyed when they replaced the Gas Mine banshee fight's music with noise. But they changed the fight scene music. Yes. THE fight scene music. Still, 60 fps Halo 2 is all they need to make me smile, and I loved the minor aesthetic details because I kept switching between the two every five seconds. I don't like that Halo 2 has pre-rendered scenes though, it misses the artistic decision of the original (and the models are good enough to make the cutscenes look nice anyway).

Why, 343? You already pissed all over the previous, much better installments to the series, why take a shit on them as well?

Truth and Reconciliation got a lot more sexy at 60 fps as well.

Edit: And that terminal concerning the Heretic leader is the most fan fic fan fic I ever fan fic. Fan fic.

I'd be curious as to why. I consider the Arbiter's levels to be the best of the entire series. The Arbiter as a whole is such a better character than Master Chief that I was disappointed every time I had to switch back to him.

I have not played Halo 2 Anniv. (PC Master Race), but from what I've seen of it, I still prefer the in-engine cutscenes. I would never recommend it over the original Halo 2.

The campaign was lacking compared to the amazing (Library non-withstanding) pace and feel of CE and the scale and sheer fun of Halo 3, while being the most frustrating of the three (Sniper Alley anyone?).

As far as MP is concerned....Halo 2 was just so, so bad mechanically compared to Halo: CE and Halo 3 its not even funny. The button glitches and auto-aim where especially ridiculous. I feel its only remembered fondly because it was the first online FPS that a ton of people got into on console and it was Multiplayer Halo so they were carrying over their memories of LAN Combat Evolved.

Point-for-point Halo 3 is the best MP game in the Halo series and will likely never be topped.

Linear and drawn out levels, ham-fisted set pieces, etc, not to mention the gigantic bait and switch with the E3 trailer to the actual game. Then there are the inferior mechanics, with the exaggerated aim-assist, poor animation quality, etc.

I would also agree that Halo 2 is the weakest of the original trilogy, with very few redeeming qualities. It's legacy survives solely on the fact it had XBL capabilities and H:CE did not. Halo 2 was a rushed game, Bungie actually apologized for it. I think H3 did make some improvements over H2, especially on the level design, but at the same time made some absolutely retarded decisions like having Cortana and the Flood anus thingy pop up on your screen multiple times per level and disrupt game flow. Also, the level Cortana. What the fuck...

I still find myself hoping that one day they'll decide to bundle this up and release it on PC.

I've been waiting to finish the fight for such a long time.

Yeah, same here. I fondly remember playing through the Halo games with friends, but never had an Xbox myself so haven't had the chance (I'm not buying a console for one series).

I'd buy it like a shot if they released to PC though! I'm kind of hoping they'll re-release this collection to PC with a big fanfare in about 6 months - or maybe even to coincide with the Win 10 release or something.

Now, that looks beautiful.

Bless those dedicated pc brethren.

I like that it exists, but I don't like the changes made to the games' aesthetics. It just seems like someone just let the art team run rampant, resulting in designs that too busy and ugly, and that depart too much from the art direction from the previous games. The pre-rendered cutscenes have not helped in the slightest. I've had this problem with pretty much all of 343's games so far, but I'm happy they've kept their fan-fic bullshit out of the main 3 aside from the terminals.

I loved the Halo games back in the day (I still pop them in from time to time), but this isn't enough for me to get an Xbox One. I already have the entire saga, and gussied up visuals with apocryphal subplots and sequels don't justify purchasing it again.[footnote]I don't care what anyone says, Halo 3 finished the fight.[/footnote] Besides, I only played them for the single player campaign (crazy, I know), so it's not like some long lost reunion for Halo 2's multiplayer for me.
