As for what I DON'T like, metalcore. Ugh. Five Finger Death Punch and Bullet For My Valentine really are loathsomely bad. And the FANS.

As a great man once said *to the cores* FUCK.THAT.SHIT. had to go to mayhem last year just for slayer *met them hell yeah* cannibal corpse *got a pick from alex and pic with corpse grinder* and behemoth *nergal=badass* but there was whitechpael job for a shitboy bullet for my suckintine black suckass myrder and then a bunch of NU metal to... *shudders* tomorrow going to summer slaughter 2 or 3 grindcore bands there

Summer Slaughter looks to be awesome this year. And you wouldn't happen to live in the Atlanta area, would you...?

OT: I listen to a lot of Stoner and Sludge Metal, as well as some Death Metal and some Djentish stuff.

No i live in SC but im driving with some buddies and nothing wrong with stoner and sludge ive seen crowbar and down. got a long list of bands ive seen live lol seen over 50 shows

Technical death metal, for the most part. Otherwise, I listen to thrash and Nu-metal if I'm listening to metal, at the time.

Oh, yeah, I also listen to a few black metal bands(Absu).

Any bands in particular that you enjoy?

Also, try listening to Severed Savior. They are excellent.

Death, Opeth, Necrophagist, Pestilence(Mind spheres is a great album), Autopsy and Morbid Angel, to name a few.

I've heard of them, I think. I'll give them a shot. Also, if you haven't heard anything by Fleshgod Apocalypse, they're pretty good.

I LOVE Fleshgod Apocalypse.

Whoa. I just jumped in here to say that I literally discovered them an hour ago. The Mafia EP is fucking fantastic, and I'm not even a fan of death metal.

For subgenres, I like folk metal, black metal, melodic metal, and tech metal. Here's some bands to introduce you the the genres:

Folk metal:
Equilibrium
Fintroll

Black metal:
Burzum (classic)
Marduk

Melodic metal:
Primordal (maybe melodic black metal; idk)
Children of Bodom (especially the album Hatecrew Deathroll)

Tech metal:
Between the Buried and Me (especially the album Colors)
Cynic

Also, I highly suggest listening to The Mars Volta. They're not metal, but they are awesome.

these are my tastes; if you don't like them, then at least you know what your tastes are not.

Progressive and Power metal are my favorites. Stuff like Devin Townsend, Cynic, Manticora, Pagan's Mind, Blind Guardian, Psychotic Waltz, Galneryus, Fates Warning, Vintersorg etc.

Also into lots of 80's thrash and traditional bands like:
Metal Church
Overkill
Morbid Saint
Sabbat (UK)
Manilla Road
Artillery
King Diamond
Celtic Frost
Coroner
Cloven Hoof
Mekong Delta
Infernal Majesty
etc.

I just stay away from the core stuff and the fat guy metulz.

I stand by what I said. This Escape the Fate band seems more like a bad (really bad) ripoff of A7X then a band to compete for the title of "Metal Boyband."

Fair enough. However 'Dying Is Your Latest Fashion' album has some amazingly metal songs on it.

And to be fair 'This War Is Ours' is an amazing song.

But there's a lot of utter shite on there...

Basically, I listen to a bunch of thrash metal. I'm a guitarist, and I love the style that goes with thrash guitar. I like vocals to be good, but I'm willing to ignore them just to hear the guitar. I am NOT a fan of death metal or grindcore as neither the guitar nor vocals appeal to me.

Sadly, everyone here likes Death Metal.

Is there a band that has awesome, heavily distorted yet fairly simple guitar riffs, actual singing without growling or screaming, and topics other than how BRUTAL they are?

Because I'm sad that I only like mainstream stuff...
