So this is about arguments/discussions/topics were you end up stuck in the middle between too extremes. Or perhaps its a completely different option between the common two.

My personal example are anything to do with religon or guns:

Spiritually I considered myself a sort universalist deist, I believe in a god or supreme being perhaps being the cause of the big bang and designing all of our natural laws (speed of light, plank's constant etc). I believe that they endowed all of creation with just the chance of reaching some sort of enlightenment through luck and evolution, which we've achieved. My beliefs on an afterlife flip-flop depending on if I'm feeling pessimistic or optimistic, but I believe if there was such a place entry wouldn't be dependent on adherence to specific scriptures but on the nature of ones deeds and actions in life. So I always try to treat people well. I feel strongly about secularism and I will also respect anyones beliefs however absurd unique I feel they are.

The frustrating thing is in a lot of debates I'm either spouting blasphemy or a deluded fool with an imaginary friend.

Then there's guns, I live in Australia. I own a firearm that I use for recreational hunting of pest animals. These animals are introduced and damage the environment, they also make for good eating. I also wish to eventually become a sporting handgun shooter, because having experienced it before it one of the funnest things I've ever done. So I feel that guns ownership is important. However I feel that guns should always be a privilege not a right. That appropriate licensing and restrictions are important.

So whenever some gun debates occur, those who want to ban guns completely seem to think I'm some sort of paranoid redneck and the pro-gun groups seem to think I'm some sort of liberal pussy.

Do you have any similar experiences or issues like this?

Remember this isn't about being right or wrong, but rather personal experiences and oppinions
