i will admit that does look really spiffy, you have just kindled a new motiavtion for me to get back into minecraft, i had built a ridiculous amount of tunnels undeground the main island and had a huge castle, but a house like that with a sunrise? that's something i'm looking forward to working towards

I'm actually really glad I could give you some motivation :3
I find it weird yet surprising, how someone who builds and constructs castles and giant projects gets inspired by something more simple with a peaceful sunrise, But it's a good thing!

I won't submit my shaders just yet, till I fix a few bugs, but the texture pack is awesome ^-^

haha i do appreciate even the small things =] in your pic everything just looked so breathtaking, sure on a large scale my stuff is awesome but its more of a "oh FUCK that's huge!" rather than a "wow..."

just downloaded all the texture mods and patches, and this is what i have to say:

What's up with all those lines in the last pic?
Either you tried to install GLSL shaders from another person and it's giving you errors or you tried to enable anti-aliasing.

yeah i followed a guide on what they recommended to install, so i'm not quite sure why the lines are there but its not bugging me too much

I also really need to try and get some of those awesome mods to work with my system - due to that sucky black screen crash I don't seem to be able to get the mods to work like they should. Annoying.

You've been having that problem as well? Have you looked into fixes for it. I managed to fix mine, but then I'm not using any mods.

As far as I understood it, it has something to do with the memory management of Minecraft AND Java in 64bit versions of Windows. I installed Zan's Minimap mod and Minecraft exactly ran for about 2 minutes or so and then crashed instead of the usual hour it would take. Playing in the browser, however, eliminates the issue completely for me but Minecraft outright refuses to start if I use any mods - so it seems I have to play in vanilla until that bug is fixed . Maybe I can find some other workaround if I devote some more time into it....

That seems to be the problem. Luckily installing the 64-bit Java SDK seemed to fix the issue for me. Notch says 1.6 will be focused mainly in fixing bugs. With that Bug one of the major goals. So hopefully everything will be sorted out soon.

I've checked my Java at least 3 times and was fully content to see that it was set to Auto-update never noticing that small hideous 32-bit bracket in my control panel while trusting that I do usually install 64 bit Software when available. Anyway, stuff (including mods) seems to work now after updating. I really do feel stupid.

But I digress: Thanks for getting me on the right track there

Glad to help. It seems that moving to 64bit Java fixes most cases. Now minecraft can use all that lovely RAM.

I like to build ruins in deserts. Trying to make them look like they were once actual buildings that collapsed. I even make tunnels and then try to make it look like they caved in.
Sometimes I also place statues, treasures, or broken portals in the sand, just for fun or so that someone might find them (I usually play smp with some friends).

I made an underground dwarf mini-city, a 7-segment redstone display and counter, a large tower (but who hasn't?), and I'm currently (very slowly) working on a challenge map for the internet to have a go at.

it's still under construction...I have to whore myself out for smooth stone. I take it I've used over 150 stacks.

I'm currently building another massive castle, and I have stone harbors and lighthouses and a workshop and some other stone building I don't know what to do with. I am proud of my minecraft world and when my castle is done I'll share it!

Yeah, I went out, got 6 stacks of coal, put em in furnaces and have had them constantly smelting the cobblestone xD
