No, not the mods here, the ones at Ubisoft.

Now, forget for the moment I use Safari and consider the following.

I know that moderators don't write the rules, they enforce them, but I couldn't resist the opportunity to make a pun.

EDIT: Oh and the name is blacked out so that I don't get banned.

Yea that is kind of an insane police, but hey it's their site they can impose as many crazy rules as they want.

I assume you're the one who made the post with the asterisks, rather than the one they had responded to. Correct?

If so, then you registered on a forum with a ZERO-Tolerance policy on profanity and made a post that could be assumed to be self censored profanity. You brought any punishment on yourself, which while I don't know their disciplinary procedures, only looks to be a warning.

Thats such a good movie....

Oh wait.

So you can be banned for putting the asterisks in yourself instead of letting your swears be changed into asterisks by the filter.

I love those forums.

Forums that have a policy that you must be 13+ to join, but treat it as if nine year olds are reading , so they censor every little thing. Auto-censor? Even better.

As I said, I love those forums *eye twitch*

And that they do.

My brother got b& for (jokingly) claiming to work for Ubisoft Montreal.

Correct.

I read all the rules when I registered. They changed their policy on profanity (which I assume was after the forums were upgraded) but they didn't bother to tell us - no private messages or e-mails were sent.

Before the policy was enacted, nobody was ever infracted for using "****" in their posts. And people did it all the time.

OP, that's what you get for being a prick.
There's nothing in the rules against being a prick.

There should be, it looked like you were unnecessarily rude in your post. Even if you've blocked out the actual word, it's fairly obvious what you mean, and it's not exactly making their forum a nice place.

They can put whatever rules they want on their site and you don't need to swear so just don't do it and you won't get banned.

Of course it's also pretty silly that swearing is automatically replaced by filters with asterisks but doing it yourself is bannable.

Still it's only a warning or something right? It's not like they instantly banned you for it so it's not too big a deal.

I agree. If you made that post here I would be surprised if you got away without a warning. I think the moral of the story is 'Good manners cost nothing'.

Well, at least screwing up in the forums at Ubsoft doesn't lead you to getting perma-banned from games on your PC. *cough*EA*cough*
