Most annoying thing recently? This fucking "Rage Against the XFactor" bullshit. People are getting all hyped up about "sticking it to the man" by taking over the Christmas charts with yet another samey, mainstream, talentless band of idiots. They've chosen a band that is already huge, against yet another huge corporation. The band is meant to be anti-capitalism yet they spend all their time earning money as part of a corporate record deal, so they're not only crap, but they're hypocrites too. And now everywhere I go I see people talking to each other about this amazing "defeat of Simon Cowell". All this is doing is further proving that his opinion matters to people! If the XFactor wins the charts, who cares? It should be no one! But instead they're fighting back, just showing how much influence they actually think he has!
This campaign will achieve nothing except publicity and money for an already huge, rich band. XFactor will be back next year with more musical tripe whether they win this Christmas or not.
If RATM win this, all we have done is once again proven that people will blindly follow a publicity stunt if it's big enough. That's not sticking it to the man you morons, it's just following a different man to the same bloody outcome! They get your money, you get a little number 1 by the person you just paid money to, in the end, you're the loser no matter who gets number 1.
And also, why should the Christmas number 1 dictate what music is considered good? Why do people think that something like the charts is that important to music?
In case you haven't guessed, this kind of idiocy sets me into rant mode. Apologies if my grammar is a bit fractured, I'm in the mother of all moods right now, and it's not being improved by the fact that RATM is still at the iTunes number 1 spot.
