What is the most beautiful song you have ever heard and why? (Like a song that gives you a like a tingly feel inside.) Post a link if you want.

My choice is Shooting Star by Bad Company because of the story it tells.

Johny was a schoolboy...

The single most beautiful song ever written is called Waterloo Sunset and it's by The Kinks

Dirty old river, must you keep rolling
Flowing into the night
People so busy, makes me feel dizzy
Taxi light shines so bright
But I dont need no friends
As long as I gaze on waterloo sunset
I am in paradise

Every day I look at the world from my window
But chilly, chilly is the evening time
Waterloo sunsets fine

Terry meets julie, waterloo station
Every friday night
But I am so lazy, dont want to wander
I stay at home at night
But I dont feel afraid
As long as I gaze on waterloo sunset
I am in paradise

Every day I look at the world from my window
But chilly, chilly is the evening time
Waterloo sunsets fine

Millions of people swarming like flies round waterloo underground
But terry and julie cross over the river
Where they feel safe and sound
And the dont need no friends
As long as they gaze on waterloo sunset
They are in paradise

Waterloo sunsets fine

I like it, but prefer the David Hallyday french version. It's like taking the original song and adding about 1,000 gigawatts of awesome to it.

As a non-french speaker, i do lose some of the power in the lyrics.

Sure, but the tone of the song is actually much different. I'm not professing to be fluent (I'm learning,) but the french song has much less of the "young punk rebel on my own nobody understands me" vibe. It seems to be more about heading out on your own and finding... Good stuff, I guess. Besides, I just like Hallyday's singing better.

Interestingly enough, the French Canadian version of the song seems to be back to the whole "young rebel" tone. I suppose it's a more literal translation of the English lyrics.

Greg! The Stop Sign - TISM or
I Wanna Spill the Blood of a Hippie - The Doug-Anthony All-Stars.

Beautiful stuff.

That's a question with no definite answer!

Maybe Right where it belongs by Nine Inch Nails.
Or Hoppipolla (spelling?) by Sigur Ros
Or Everlong by the Foos
Swing life away by Rise against
Don't Panic by Coldplay
Margot Kidder by Million dead

The list could just run and run.

I didn't see much 'young rebel' in the english one. Sure, it's there, but i'm seeing more of trying to find himself and come to terms with some hard facts. An offshoot of that is that he feels alone, but i don't see that as the focus. Personally there's nothing wrong with 'nobody understands me' though, its such a widely used concept for a reason, it's a common feeling and there's nothing whiny about it when handled correctly. I would venture this song handles it nicely.

In truth, im a big fan of the music itself as well, as well as the lyrics.
