I've seen some pretty messed up things in life. I used to work in a hotel casino and I saw people leap from the tops of the parking structures to their deaths on several occasions.

Before a friend took me out hunting gophers, ground hogs, and prairie dogs with high caliber rifles I was rather disturbed by violent deaths of small animals. Though what got me over that was seeing a horse with a broken leg have to be put down, it's broken leg was from a prairie dog, or ground hog hole. Still one that disturbs me was I was riding around with my uncle in his classic car one day, at about 70mph the antenna on the front caught a pigeon, gutting it, spinning it around and leaving it hooked under the neck on the antenna. The windsheld and my uncle's arm just got sprayed with blood and pigeon innards. It was horrifying.

Being the one who found my mom in a coma that lead to her death wasn't very good for my psyche either, especially because minutes before she'd asked me to make her some food. We never did figure out what caused the coma. She had pneumonia at the time and her lungs were pretty full of fluid. At the same time she had type 2 diabetes, at the hospital they took her blood sugar and it was over 500mg/deciliter. She passed away that evening. Still not over that.

As someone with T1 Diabetes, that is horrifying. When I got diagnosed, my bloodsugar was around that level, though in Europe we use a different measure. However, after using Google I found out what that means in mmol/L. My condolences for your loss.

OT: My body before I went to the doctor. I always was kinda overweight, not a lot but definitely too hefty. Eventually, I weighed 59 kilos and me being 180 cm (5 ft 11?) that was not OK. I also have a naturally heavy build with wide shoulders and such and being able to see my ribs without holding in my belly was quite sobering.
Nothing on the level of other people here but I'm thinking I have lead a charmed life in this respect.

As a taxi driver i see some pretty fucked up shit but the oddest thing was a guy i picked up once who started telling me 100% straight faced how he was an alien and his armada was up in the sky poised to come down and "Teach this country a lesson" and how he'd shot down 12 ships on his own already.

Now bear in mind this guy is sat right next to me, leaning into me as he was talking and i didn't have any easy way out. Thankfully the guy decided i was on his side and got out peacefully, without paying his fare naturally. It was only several years later i met a mental health nurse who knew of the guy and told me that he was 1) A Paranoid schizophrenic and 2) had a history of violence.

What he was doing walking around and clearly off his meds escapes me...

A few years ago I saw a cat being chased by two racoons. It was jumping across rooftops to get away but eventually got cornered at the last house with no where else to go. The racoons immediately catch up to him and start humping it. Pretty sure they were all three male but at the very least the racoons were.
After the double take wondering if my mind was playing tricks on me, I took a couple seconds to stare and confirm what I was actually seeing.

I was working on my bosses farm when I was young, maybe 20?, hed have me labour there when work on his building sites got a bit light. One time I and a bunch of other guys were sorting building materials in his yard when he takes his granddaughter into the deer shed. I hear her start crying really loudly, screaming really. I couldnt see inside But I didnt think to look because hey, Colins in there with her she probably just fell over. He came out like ten minutes later snd said she had fallen over.

Later he got sent to jail for being a pedophile for messing with one of his other relatives. The bastard was probably molesting her while I listened to her cry and didnt do anything. Im never going to trust an adult with kids that much again. It still makes me shake to think about it.

I was celebrating new year at a local pub and a fight broke out, nothing out of the ordinary and we knew it was going to happen because there were two groups shouting shit at each other all night. During the fight one of the lads got kicked in the head and went still, when the fight had ended and everybody who could run had ran away we checked everybody who was on the floor, the guy who had gone still had died from his injuries.

I saw a kid pissing on a railing in China once. It was a busy junction in the middle of the city and he was butt-naked.

Times are hard.

It was several years ago, back when I was still senior in high school, and my leopard gecko was getting along in her years. Context, I got her from a family friend who was going to college, and wasn't able to take her with me - so I had this pet for about 7 years since then. She was getting sick a lot in her age, and I had to hand feed her because of it. So, one morning, I was getting ready to go to school, and I went to check on her. I remember opening up the lid to her cage, and picking her up, then noticing something was wrong - her body was stiff. She didn't move, and nothing sagged, not even her tail. The best way I can describe it is like someone had dipped her in wax and she had frozen stiff. I remember dropping her body and shimming away from the cage, while my parents tried to comfort me about my lizard's death. I ended up going to school anyways, because attendance policies were a *****. It still shakes me to think that we were both around the same age when she passed away.

The other thing that I can think of was during summer (a few years younger than the above), and my dog had gotten preggers after breaking her runner and buggering off. Not long after that, she came back and had the puppies (as dogs do), and some time later - we went to check on her, and the insides of her ears and all over her poor body was covered in ticks. Fat, swelling, grey little pests that drained the vitality and life of my dog, clustered in groups that better resembled disease than any sort of bug. Needless to say, I really don't like ticks; and I kinda shudder whenever i find one myself.

Don't really know. I mean, I saw lots and lots of things in Asia when I was little. Extreme poverty is like that.

I've been in a car crash where I wasn't wearing a seatbelt, and was lying down in the back asleep. Woke up to the entire car spinning around me. I wasn't spinning. Just the car.
That was a freaky moment. I was not injured at all in that accident. XD

Had to call an ambulance because my neighbour had a drug overdose.
Seen 5 police come into my place, and had one of them climb out the window on to the roof just to check if the neighbour was OK. (entirely different neighbour though)

Walked along the rim of an active volcano. Which, inexplicably has a staircase running up the side of it.

Lots and lots of extreme poverty in India and Indonesia.
Severe flooding.

Nearly driving through a flooded river...

I don't know. The list of actual disturbing things I've seen probably isn't that long.
The list of unusual things I've seen meanwhile, is quite extensive.

I've been pretty lucky not to have seen too many disturbing things in my life. I think I might need to go with road-kill. Seeing a twitching squirrel that I'd just ran over made me nauseous.

For weird, one thing was a rock climbing injury. One of my friends got his arm twisted in the rope before taking a lead fall, the rope went taught around his arm and basically squished his entire bicep into the top half of his arm. It took several years for it to return to normal

My girlfriend had the pleasure of seeing someone dragged out of a bar and curb-stomped earlier this year though

The closest I've had to seeing something really disturbing is having to see someone possibly die on a football field due to heart complications. They were declared dead later that night (they didn't make any response before being brought to a hospital). High school football game, so obviously someone who was very young with plenty of years left in them.

From what I've read here it seems like I've been rather lucky.

May I just say that I am incredibly thankful to have lead an extremely boring life?

I'll go with a simply surreal moment. I used to live in a cheap apartment with the sort of neighbors that you might expect in the economically crap end of town. But one night, about 2-3 A.M. I was woken by someone yelling at the top of their lungs, "You got me arrested! *****, you got me arrested! For disturbing the peace!" Said while he was being escorted to the police car outside.

At any rate, the next day a friend and I were walking towards the front door of the building and two young women were sitting on the front steps. Upon seeing us approach one of them elbowed the other and said, "Ask them." With that urging, the second woman spoke up and asked us if someone could actually be arrested for making too much noise. My friend and I looked at each other and I said, "Yeah. It's called disturbing the peace." At which point the first woman began to laugh and the second just looked miserable.

Compared to many of the entries already listed, merely a surreal moment and I am happy to take it.

When I was four years old me and my Mum went to pick up my brother from school. As we were walking towards the car he jumped on top of this knee high brick wall next to the parking lot. My Mum told him to get down from there but he didn't listen and kept walking along the wall. Soon he slipped off the wall and cracked his head open on the concrete.
I saw his brain.
Luckily the doctor's clinic was literally just around the corner so we rushed him there and got him medical treatment, and now he is a perfectly normal 20 year old man, albeit he mumbles a lot but that's probably just teenagerhood.
After that I have never been particularly afraid of brains since.

I once saw a dead dog - not too weird, pretty creepy though - sans head.

Not torn off by a car - the dog probably wasn't even roadkill, it was nowhere near a road. It looked like it had been sawed off just behind the ear.

I liked to think I had a pretty strong stomach and a penchant for gore. That day proved me wrong.

I've seen some stuff, I don't know if I'd wish to un-see it because that stuff made me into the person I am and I think I'm all right, admittedly it's not like they were nice experiences.

Well when I was around 5 I saw a dog tied to an abandoned lamp post in an abandoned construction site of a residential area that was near my house, I saw it die slowly over the course of the week and I never really tried to free him or give him food or water, I just left it there, you know, I had the option to save it, even in quite a lot of different ways and it didn't even cross my mind for a second, I think that's pretty fucked up, I wonder if it is precisely because of that event that when encountered with a similar situation a couple of years ago I took the dogs home and then to a shelter despite my general dislike of animals.

I've seen a couple of shoot-outs I don't know if they can really be considered a fucked up situation if I didn't react to them at all because I couldn't care less at the time, I wonder what I'd do now, I've changed too much.

Not surprising considering what I just said but I've seen quite a lot of corpses laying on the street, my reactions to these tend to vary depending in how gory I guess, the scene is and what my mood is, ranging from complete indifference, to depression, to disgust and even an uncontrollable rage with a horrible sense of impotence because I can't do jack shit about it.

There's one thing that haunts my nightmares though, I once passed through a street and I saw some kids around the age 10 that were uh... selling themselves, I tell myself that if I hadn't been a passenger I would have gotten out of the car and killed whatever asshole was running that operation, presumably to make myself feel better but I don't because I didn't do anything, nor could I, even if I called the cops the police here... They're worthless and corrupt, I've never seen them do anything but ask for and take bribes, but maybe that's just an excuse to make myself feel better because I didn't do anything, it sucks you know, seeing something awful and being unable to do anything.

There's another thing that happened though I've never thought much about it and I can say I didn't really care but you know that's how I used to be when I was in High School, I was pretty much dead inside already, but one time a kid got abducted from my school in the parking lot right in front of well everybody, there were a lot of kids there, I don't know what to say, how could I feel bad about that when it was a relatively common occurrence to see crime scenes and corpses on my way too school.

And well there's that time a little girl got abducted outside of where I work while I was working, I didn't see that but it happened and I heard and read about it all over the place, and then I felt really bad because I didn't hear any of her screams (Nor anyone inside the building) and I didn't do anything about it, "If only I had gone outside for a second" I thought maybe I could have saved her, made me feel like shit, I should have saved her somehow, well that's how I feel, I know it was not possible and even if I had been there I wouldn't have been able to chase a fucking car on foot and it would have taken too long for me to get to mine, start it and chase them but I still feel like shit, I guess I expect too much from me, perhaps because that's the person I want to be however unrealistic it seems.

I think that's it, I mean not everything but you know there's always stuff you'd rather not talk about, the world is a cruel place sometimes I struggle to keep my head together, I mean how could I not, I know what it's like when bad things happen to you, how you stop caring and I don't want other people to go through that, if I could take everything so other people didn't have to I would, it doesn't matter if bad things happen to me I can stand it, I can go through with it, but when it happens to someone else, I just wish I could stop it, that I could save them somehow and it makes me feel so guilty, like I'm a piece of shit for doing nothing even if there's nothing I could do or should, it's not like it's my responsibility but it sure feels like it.

My best friend's then-girlfriend told me that my best friend had be diagnosed with Type-1 diabetes, and he had been admitted to the hospital. Whilst he was recovering, I went to the hospital, and he was lying on the bed looking like a zombie. He was 5"8, and weighed 5st, and his skin was almost white. He likes to tell me the story on how the doctors were telling him that he was 30 minutes from going into a coma and possibly even dying. I hate that bastard.

I also watched someone get dragged out of an overturned car, a couple of weeks ago. I can only assume by the relative slowness of the paramedics that he did not make it, but I never knew for sure, as I didn't exactly feel like waiting around.

I've seen some pretty strange things, but the most disturbing thing was probably visiting my grandad shortly before he died. He had Alzheimer's and I hadn't seen him for a while, so it was a very big change. He didn't recognise any of us at all, even his own wife and daughter. He seemed so confused, and when we tried to explain things to him he only got more confused, and then angry.

I really wish they didn't let me see him. Seeing someone you knew and loved for your entire life utterly stripped of everything that made them who they were is fucking horrible. It's just the fucking worst. The idea of that happening to me is terrifying, I'd rather be euthanized.

I've seen this one crazy chick take a hit off a ganja pipe, and then exhale all the smoke into the face of her less than a year old baby.

Still not sure which part creeped me out more, that or hearing a baby cough like a stoner taking a heavy hit.

CPS took the kid away for unrelated reasons, according to the rumor mill.

I was an aircraft mechanic in the Air Force, and saw some Crew Chief get his hand caught in a paratroop jump door actuator. Pinky and ring fingers gone, middle finger is a stump, and pointer finger was ripped off rather than cut off, with the second half of it looking like that shit you scrape out of a pumpkin when you make a jack o' lantern.
