Topic. After seeing Golbez in the Dissidia games and remembering Severus Snape and Batman as well as trying to write a protagonist of my own this way, I find myself dwelling endlessly on just how far one can push that boundary before audiences would deny any possibility that this character could be a hero, never mind the protagonist. Who do you feel goes against their appearances the best?

(No anti-heroes if possible, looking for good scary or villainous-looking characters who are genuinely good-hearted and compassionate, not crazies like Hellsing's Alucard who are only good because the other guys are even worse).

First thing that springs to mind is that incarnation of Frankenstein's monster in Hugh Jackmans Hellsing movie. Complete opposite of the OG Frankensteinsmonster who started out nice but grew bitter at the world fearing him and took revenge on his creator. Helsingborg version mourned the death of Dr Frankenstein and considered him a father, whilst looking monstrous enough for Hellsing to immediately attack he turned out to be kindhearted.

No-Face from Spirited Away is actually a nice guy once you get past his ominous apparel.

Sorin Markov.

Pale skin, white hair, yellow eyes and imposing stature. And yet he's probably the best post-Mending walker around, barring maybe Ugin. But that remains to be seen.

Well, there's Valtiel in Silent Hill 3, who desperately wants to keep you alive.

He might not count though, because his motives have more to do with the cult that spawned him than any real connection to you.

There's also Douglas Cartland of the same game, who looks sketchy as hell at first, but genuinely cares about you later. I don't think he looks outright evil, though.

C'mon, It's a great twist. Unfortunately, too much of the rest of the story hovers between maudlin and a juvenile concept of hardcore while ass-pulls and idiot balls come flying from every direction for it to be saved.

Uh... Does Sasuke Uchiha count? Or is that cheating?

Other than that, I choose either Lordgenome or Satsuki Kiryuin... because the formal is Gainax and the latter is Trigger without spoiling anything, I think...

Another excuse for me to bring up Skullknight? Don't mind if I do.

This dude look familiar to anyone playing The Witcher 3 at the moment? He should. He looks like the commander for the forces of Evil, but he's one of the few nice guys in the Berserk universe. He's also a total pimp, saving hookers falling to their death like a boss.

I was thinking about that one episode of the Farscape "Bone to Be Wild," but then I realized yeah they play with expectations like that. But in the end everyone is awful. But that's Farscape nine times out of ten something bad happens. The tenth time something catastrophic happens.

Great twist? It's Warcraft 3 all over again! Zerg are now Orcs! Xel'naga are the burning legion.

Death from Terry Pratchett's Discworld. Even when stroking a kitten, he looks pretty evil.
Honourable mention to Death from Neil Gaiman's The Sandman, because every character in that series expects her to look evil when she actually doesn't.

I would say giant gutter ant from dark souls 2. I never killed it, but I can imagine the guilt of those who have. The poor thing.
Oh and perhaps the scorpion warrior man too, though that seemed definately placed to troll players. Not much point posting photos as a. It is fairly self explanatory as to why they look sinister and b. I inevitably mess it up every try.

I never played Warcraft 3, so I know nothing about that. I think doing something with the Overmind beyond making it the Zerg's glowing weak point is good. Pretty much everything they actually done with the Zerg past that has been, well, stupid. If anything, the Zerg should be worse now that they're breaking free of the Xel'naga control. Amon put reins on the Zerg and pointed them in a particular direction. Without that control, they're free to expand in every direction.

What should be happening is that the characters should be facing some really horrible choices. Kerrigan's ability to rule the Zerg ought to be built on Amon's control. If she keeps it, the swarm is kept in check, but sooner or later Amon comes and takes it away from her to end the universe. If the control is broken, the Zerg are once and truly free to mindlessly overwhelm every planet in the galaxy. The characters would be rushing around the galaxy trying desperately to find a third solution before an unknown time limit runs out on them. Can they kill Amon (somehow) and keep his control? Can the original Xel'naga plan be resurrected? Could they use the control to slaughter the Zerg?

That's more what they should've done with the twist. The Zerg never needed to be sympathetic.

How about, from Kingdom Hearts 2...

Considering that Ansem, Seeker of Darkness, is the Big Bad of the first game, and Riku actually takes his literal form for the majority of the second game, he not only counts but probably wins the whole thread.

Given that he looks exactly like a particular character from the first game through most of the runtime of KH2, Riku definitely counts.
