This topic is just to discuss which games you think had the most surprising storylines. Just to give you an idea of what I mean, these could be storylines that changed the entire direction of the plot, storylines that made you realize something that heppened earlier or a particular thing about a character in the game.

I personally did not expect alot of what happened in the first Condemned, though this may have been because I am not very good at predicting. Also I was surprised by Silent Hill 3.

Also, just to say, I did search the forums, but I felt there were no topics that dealt specifically with the concept of plots that shocked or surprised. I'd also like to say that if someone is going to use a spoiler could they write that at the top of their post.

I was surprised by how Niko ended up killing people he worked for in GTA4. Or just how many time the people he worked for died, in general, at his hands or not.

I was also surprised that Alma wasn't a little girl in F.E.A.R. 1, but a full grown woman.

Also shocked about what you see when you reach "The End of The World" in Grandia 1. Kinda.

I thought that the revelation in Mass Effect was quite surprising.

I didn't think sovereign could be an actual reaper.

THE CAKE IS A LIE!

I know you think I'm being cliche, but I seriously didn't see that coming. Joke's on me right?

The first Halo when the flood appeared (and were relevent)
GTA: San Andreas. Starts off as gang warfare, then it went in a really weird direction and did that like, 4 more times. I was hijacking a train for some government official when i stopped and was like "How did I end up here from gangs!?"

No, the most surprising plot in a game is Deus Ex. Hell, I've played through it about three times now and I still can't remember the full details of it all, with all the plot twists and double-crosses and spectacular reveals.

"Would you kindly?" Quite a surprise.

Honestly, games aren't brilliant for this, being sub-par mostly in plot standards. Even JRPGs, which are often lauded for their plots, are actually good for characters rather than plot. Anyone who saw the first big twist in Tales of Symphonia coming will get what I mean.

Honestly, first time I played Metal Gear Solid, I about wet myself when I realized what had happened at the end. Sure, the series as a whole got kind of trite about it's mandatory twists and turns, but that first operation... boy was I taken off guard.
Then again, I was... what... 12?

GTA IV, particularly the fact that everybody seems to think that story was groundbreaking. It was standard action-gangster fare, and was filled with annoying characters.

any metal gear games. that and crackdown.....if it had a story.
so if it had any form of dialouge other than "kills for skillz, agent. kill for skillz" it would most definatly have an amazing plot twist.
