For male names, it varies. Usually either Revan, Alexander, or Ender. For female characters, Karan, named after Karan S'Jet from Homeworld.

On the internet, always Candid, Candidus or CandidCarnage.

Character name is always Candid, Candidus, Regret or- if it's an RPG- I use a female character named Andine.

Different names. When I used to play online shooters I tended to use the tag FisherPrice. That was after I had a good time having people read "You were killed by FisherPrice: My First 9mm". I don't really remember any old character names at the moment though. My current character in Skyrim is Nymeria.

I normally go with "Tilo" for my first playthrough of a game. Just to make sure all my first decisions don't feel wildly out of place, since it will be me making those decisions I made.

But If I'm a spellcaster of some sort, I'll normally go with Psynic (for a female) or Viven (for a male). I don't know if there is an origin to those names, they just feel like names I've always known.

If I'm a warrior type, I'll try and hit as close to Glace as I can, regardless of gender, but changed a little depending on who it is.

And rogue-ish types either get Burst(male), Luci(female), or Nell(either).

And then I always tried to get my good characters(moral good, not skill good) to be named Sinta (maybe combine that with the other names to fit with the type of character) and the evil ones to be Atnis.

Some combination of spellcaster and warrior got Vous. Rogue and spellcaster got Nazen/Nazereth (didn't know it was biblical when I first used it, so I changed it to Nazen at some point, I still use Nazereth from time to time though). Warrior and rogue is never an option to me, just doesn't sound...Possible.

And those are my names...Oh, and if my first playthrough of a game is with a female character I go with the name Tilana.

Being a massive fanboy of Warhammer 40k, I always name my characters Sevatar(male)/Kallista Eris(female) for some completely arbitrary reason(probably because the former is a badass Night Lords captain, and the latter is the only Warhammer 40k character to ever give me a hard-on).

That, or Fagballs.

I started using these names for fantasy rpg games-

Warrior like class- Raiken
Rouge/ assassin or thief (anything melee but not strong) class- Scarim
Archer/ non magic range class- Tarrow
Magic wielder class- Vallan

The reason why I had chosen those names is I had simple made them up when I first wanted to make fantasy names. Once I had made a name for a specific class I simple run with it whenever I play another fantasy like games.

My returning ones tend to be Thayill, Fleari, Auriae, Soliss and variations on 'Altheia' for female characters and Khaelas, Gilliam, Acturus and Menelaos for males. Usually I'll just go with whatever strikes me as a spur-of-the-moment thing, though. My dedicated neutral character in New Vegas was just 'Jennifer' and my balls-to-the-wall shoot-your-face-if-you-endanger-the-mission Renegade Shepard was 'Holly.' For contrast. Yeah.

I usually just pick something random that I happen to find funny or amusing at the time. Examples: Cool Johnson, Yo Teach, Steve Buscemi, Shep Shepard (Mass Effect), Bob Cock (Reference to the band Primus), Hey (people end up saying "Hey, Hey!"), Buttersnaps, Gern Blanston. The closest I have used recently to an actual name was Tiberius, but to me it still has some inherent humor.

lets put it this way, soemtimes in Skyrim you get attacked by assasins, and they drop a note.
Mine reads
'As instructed, you are to eliminate Rick Astley by any means necessary. The Black Sacrament has been performed - somebody wants this poor fool dead.

We've already received payment for the contract. Failure is not an option.

- Astrid'
This is brilliant...

OT: Well, for that there rim what's in the sky, I chose "Valdyr". It means wolf in norse. His last name is Svellherra (ice lord) My character is a werewolf, has upgraded and soon to be enchanted wolf armor, which I want to call Svellherra family armor" and Hircine's ring. He's also a nord, so even in human form he can RAAAAWR like a boss. I've given him a complex backstory which I may start making a thread for as a character journal.

I normally just go with my own name in games like Fallout, but when something a bit more fantastical is called for I like to do my research. In other words, I'm just boring enough of a person to go out of my way to research Khajiiti naming conventions to construct Dar'Vandra out of bits of other names...

I wrote something in a name generator for the name of my Dark Elf in Skyrim, and now his name is Mithfangiel. Sounds pretty badass, considering he's gonna be a sneaky one. I haven't decided if he's gonna be magic/melee or ranged though.

I usually go with something that starts with a "D" because that is what my name starts with. For Skyrim, I named my character after my son.

He has a slightly different perspective on morality and loves nothing more then drinking all of the alcohol ever. So me. I play me.

The reason I chose Chad Sexington is my friend said it once and it made me laugh.
What Carlos Spicyweiner not good enough for you? I suppose you're also to good for Baron von Hammercock, and Cun Tkiller. You sicken me.

OT: Gotta go with always having Wade as a first name. Cause when he always decides to be a smartass who runs in with swords a flame trying to scream a dragon to death there's only one end to that story. A pool of death.

That's kinda depressing considering how much you die in the game...
