considering the fact that i did not enjoy dragon age OR oblivion, but certainly did enjoy neverwinter nights, i'm incredibly conflicted on this one.
Unfortunately you can't even say that. The original Neverwinter Night was simply a massive D&D campaign, using D&D 2nd edition rules. The dice rolls were actually shown in your message box, and it folowed the formula to a T. It was the purest form of computer-based D&D created except for one thing: Imagination. As it was a computer game, you simply could say "Imma go start a bar fight and resurrect them ass asl my undead minions now guys!" It was still the closest you could get.Keava said:Kinda funny way to describe it considering that Dragon Age was heavily based on NwN at first, it was after all cRPG BioWare started working on right after they released Neverwinter Nights.
NWN used 3.0 rules, NWN2 used 3.5 (bigger difference then you'd think). What starkly set apart the two was the Multiplayer, NWN1's simpler nature and lack of a hard capped module size enabled sprawling and complex "persistant world" modules, that were essentially like playing your own D&D MMO you designed yourself, nearly every aspect of the game could be modded or changed.Celtic_Kerr said:Unfortunately you can't even say that. Neverrwinter 2 strayed from the path a bit. It still used D&D based rules (3rd edition I think, or advanced/refiend 2nd) and I thouroughly loved it as well.
Dragon Age is kind of like a simplified Neverwinter Nights without the dice rolls and much more basic classes and races. It's a different formula alltogeter, and yet stays true to the Bioware way.
I'd much rather see a Neverwinter Nights 3, just to see how this one is done
Fuck! That's right! I keep getting editions mixed up... I liked the modable factor, though alot of people abused it and just started a new game with their level 20s and created a bunch of intensly powerful items that made them god. Oh yes, and then you create items with 15 over powered spels on them that can only be wielded by level 40s (doens't exist), but sell for a ton of money. It was great to make your own adventure (within the world of the game, but as mentioned, it still wasn't as creative as real D&D sadly), but it sucked in that it let people abuse the gameTsunamiWombat said:NWN used 3.0 rules, NWN2 used 3.5 (bigger difference then you'd think). NWN2...could not, did not, and had a memory hardcap on module size. Obsidian admitted it wasn't designed for the same kind of multiplayer. Ahh, the sweet smell of fail...
