The new Castlevania

I saw to the Castlevania trailer and to my woe the game appeared to be in full 3D, and as I am sure most people are aware of is that these games have a reputation for being bad. It seems that more retro games are coming along, like Shadow Complex, that do more the genre that Castlevanai helped build. So my question is do you think that Konami should keep trying to make the cripple walk, go back to 2D game play, or just abandon the series?

I hope it's good if not I'll ignore it like I've done most 3-D castlevania attempts. Though a 2.5 D Castlevania would kick all kinds of ass, though I'm not sure why.

I really wish they would keep making 2-D versions, the 3-D ones have always been less then stelar. I want a slightly redone Aria of Sorrow on the XBLA, that is probably my favorite in the series.

Patrick Stewart was doing narration in the trailer so it better be good!
I didn't mind Curse of Darkness but most of the 3D Castlevania games don't live up to the 2d ones.

It's a really tough call. One the one hand we have the past and our given experiences with 3D Castlevania games. On the other hand, there's the unexpected. Konami may really just "Metal Gear" the Castlevania series. We dont know for sure. The one thing is, the 2D format for action/adventure titles may very well be living on borrowed time. With all the given advances in hardware, pushing 3D graphics seems to be the direction to be pushed in. It may not be a good thing, but the conversion to 3D is THE thing nowadays. I say approach with faith. If it sucks, well Edison said it best right?

The game worked so well in 2D. Why would they go and mess with something so good? Did they not see what happened to Sonic?

Still, I suppose it could be good, but there was no reason to move away from 2d gameplay. They could even have done the whole 2.5D thing, getting the nice looking 3D graphics while still sticking to the 2D world movement we know and love.

Thank you for that link. Now that I know what people are talking about, I can say that the game looks fantastic. Whether that means the gameplay itself is good, remains to be seen. Same it's not a 2d game for DS though. I don't have any consoles except the Wii.

I never liked Castlevania or for a matter of fact that whoe art motif they had going on but it's not horrible. Since I saw that Castlevania fighting game I really think the series needs to be rethought.

Mine too.

And I love the Castlevania series, which is why I'm praying that this game will be good, because I have a good feeling that I will pre-order it and if it turns out to be rubbish like we all suspect then that is 60 USD ready to be tossed away.
