The "New" Enduring Classics

Hello Escapists !
So recently, I've been replaying Super Metroid on the SNES and I was impressed with how well it had endured the test of time by being as engaging and enjoyable today, despite the now inferior 16-bit technology of its time.
I have two younger cousins both born post 2001 who have been raised with the DS and the Wii, and have played my ps3. On their most recent visit, they came across my n64 and super mario 64 and OoT and mario kart, and spent the entire visit quietly enjoying these older games. Considering these kids usually bring their DS(s) with them and tend to get hyper still, this was pretty damn impressive.
These games date from the early noughties to the nineties and are recognised as enduring classics for their systems, and still hold relevance today. Which brings me to my point.

My fellow escapists, what games of the current Gen do you think will become the "new" enduring classics 10 or 20 years down the line ?

My Votes are :
-Red Dead Redemption
-Portal/Portal 2
-The Arkham Series
-Skyrim
-Assasins Creed 2

I would very much like to hear your opinions !

Portal and Portal 2 will probably be the games that everyone can agree on for being "new enduring classics 10 and 20 years down the line"

I think Nintendo's Wii as entertinment will steal the picture from single games when it comes to enduring gaming or when just talking about games.

So by "classic" do you mean which games we think all the indie developers will be copying the style of in the future?

Anyway I'd put money on Portal.

I'd also hope for Assassins Creed and Uncharted personally.

Portal is an obvious choice. I'd also wager Walking Dead will be remembered in a few years time.

I lol'd at that.
But you know what I mean, games that will still be as much fun to play in 10 or 20 years time without feeling like they've aged so badly they're unplayable by the standards of the time in question.

the portal games will stand the test of time. arkham series for being the first good batman games. skyrim? last game bethesda made before droping all the pretense about making games for platforms other than x-box
I do agree with your comment regarding the Xbox, but I personally feel that Skyrim, even with all its flaws and marketing debacle, will endure the test of time well.

If it were up to me, Final Fantasy XIII should be the everlasting classic.

Maybe the more popular answer would be something like Minecraft or even DayZ.

Bwuh?

OT: I can't definitely say, but a man can dream...
I'd agree with Portal and the Arkham games.
I would want to think Sonic Generations, Journey, and the Souls series. And assuming it's not "too old" already, Okami.

Here's what the classics look to me in the future:

-Assassins' Creed II
-Minecraft
-Demons and Dark Souls
-Arkham series
-Persona series
-Portal 1/2

Yeah, that's what it looks like to me.

No one said Bioshock yet? Alright, guess it's up to me... :p

BIOSHOCK! Ah... Fantastic.

Portal 1/2 of course. That's just a given.

Good chance that Minecraft will be, too.

Yep, those are the ones I'd definitely put money on.

I'd argue otherwise about Skyrim, though. I'm pretty sure that people thought the same thing when Oblivion came out. And let me tell ya, that game has aaaaaaged. Pretty sure by the time the next Elder Scrolls game comes out, people will think the same about Skyrim. That said, people still love Morrowind, so what do I know? :p

-Dragon Age: Origins as that was the last truly great fantasy RPG that we'll get from Bioware!

-Bioshock! Always end up playing it!

-Mario Galaxy gets added to the classic Mario games! Its just so fun!

-Condemned, still scary as hell and one of the few first person games where you can see your feet!

-Portal 1. Not the 2nd. Whilst it was a great game. The first just has something about it, plus its the reason we got 2!

-Mass Effect 2! Not every game in a series is a classic! Ususally there's one game in a series that breaks the mould and is some thing truly spectacular!

-Fallout New Vegas! Its the Fallout 3 I wanted, made by Black Isle (Obsidian). References to the first two games galore and much better writing!

I suppose the best way to look at it is to think to yourself, which of my games am I going to still have & want to play in 10-20 years? Providing the console still works of course! I'm quite confidently annoyed that my NES is going to outlive my 360! And most likely a few of its replacements!

Dark Souls (for it's oldschool charm and unique MP)
Bayonetta (for improving upon DMC IMO)
Vanquish (For making a cover shooter with fast and flowing gameplay and pacing)
Rayman Origins (arstyle and platforming goodness)
Dead Space 1 (Horror with 3rd person shooting)

I also agree on Sonic Generations even if the 2D side isn't perfect.

XBLA

Outland (visuals which brings bullet hell to the platformer)
Splunky (platformer with rogue like gameplay)
Dust: An Elysian Tail (Taking the vannilaware sidescroller RPG Formula and making it 10 times more fun)
PacMan CE DX (One of the best examples of a modern day arcade game reboot)

EDIT although it's hard to judge what exactly will be considered classics as it depends on what form gaming will be in the future and what most ppl like.

Portal 1 & 2, Arkham, and Minecraft are probably the surest contenders. Demon's/Dark Souls, Assassin's Creed 2 and Bioshock maybe, but I'm skeptical.

Even as a massive Elder Scrolls fan, I can say with utmost certainty that Skyrim will not be an enduring classic. It has a lot of technological limitations and bugs, which both contribute greatly to the aging process. It doesn't appeal to any niche quite the same way as Morrowind does, so it probably won't even have a cult following. And I would be very surprised if Bethesda suddenly ceased putting out Elder Scrolls games.

I would put my money on Dark Souls / Demon Souls and perhaps Deus Ex Human Revolution.
Assassins Creed (which one is not important), Mass Effect or Bioshock dont have the standout gameplay that makes a game a classic. At least not for me.
I agree that Red Dead Redemption, Portal and the Arkham Asylum have the potential to be a classic.

Is this a personal list? Because anyone not putting Bioshock or the Mass Effect series as games that will not be remembered 10 years from now are lying to themselves.

Mass Effect
Bioshock
Portal
Mario Galaxy
Arkham series

Honorable mention:

Red Dead Redemption
Fallout 3
Mincraft
Dark Souls
