Square Enix Japan just went live with the site for the new Final Fantasy DS game, "Four Warriors of Light: Final Fantasy Gaiden [http://www.square-enix.co.jp/hikarino4sensi/]." I for one am excited about it, because it really does seem like an old-school FF game, down to having midi and being completely turn-based (which they are marketing as "a simple battle where the player only has to chose a a set battle command"). They really seem to be going for the beginners and kids or the people who started out on and are nostalgic for the old FF games. It reminds me a lot of FF3, which I enjoyed in the DS.

If you click on System, they've got a clip of moving around the world and a clip of the battle system, so even though "MP" seems to be gone, you still get to use magic. It seems like they're trying to integrate the stylus, since it says you can set the tempo of the battles with the stylus.

It's slated for a fall release in Japan, so it'll probably be localized some time in winter or spring, maybe.

I hate the art direction DS FF games are going.... Honestly I'd rather look at 16bit graphic games, I think they had more style.

Wow these graphics are bad. I might even go as far to say that they are worse then Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragons'. And it was bad. Bad.

I've always loved how things looked in 16-bit graphic, especially the robot suit in Micheal Jackson's Moonwalker. Man, what an awesome game.

Yeah, I remember being somewhat intrigued about the teaser site, then I realised it's an FF game.

I love my FF games, but to be honest, there are enough of them on the DS. Would it have killed them to do another title in the Mana series? or god forbid, Breath of Fire??

Exactly, I think 16bit games that were done properly had a lot of style, and even though the graphics are dated I don't cringe when I look at them. Not many 3D based graphics can say that.

Looks alright. Not something high on my list though so I'll probably wait to buy this one.

I'll purchase a Nintendo DS/Lite/i just for this. Also Kingdom Hearts.
Will there be a multiplayer of some sort?

The specs say 1-4 players, so looks like there will be.

Heh, I feel like I'm the only one who actually likes the graphics. But then, they are unabashedly cute, and I feel no shame in saying that I like cute things. I think this game is adorable.

Actually, they've put out a lot of stuff for the DS besides FF; it's just not a lot of it gets localized. Like the Nanashi no Geemu (The Game With No Name) horror series (Nanashi no Geemu [http://www.square-enix.co.jp/774_2008/], Nanashi no Geemu: Eye [http://www.square-enix.co.jp/774/tOpFrAmeA.html]), Blood of Bahamut [http://www.bahamut.jp/] (which might be localized, I have no idea, but I doubt Nanashi no Geemu will be, which is a shame because it's really good.)

Oh no doubt about that. Blood of Bahamut I'm definitely getting, and I do love their non-FF games, however I still don't think they give those non-ff franchises enough love. When was the last Mana title, or other lesser known titles?

Look what sells, though. You can't really blame them for sticking with the guaranteed money maker. :/

And honestly, looking at their list of DS games...there are a lot of FF and a lot of Dragon Quest, but the "Walking Around the World DS" series has them both beat.

Well, I'd still have to finish The World Ends With You. And that's after I finish Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor.

...Still, I really dislike the 3D graphics on DS. You can, sure, but why? 2D looks a lot better.

No doubt about the guaranteed sales, but hell considering Dragon Quest beat out Halo 3 in terms of first day sales, they could just release DQ once every 2 years and buy the moon.

But I guess I'm just whining because I want another Mana or BoF game.

Seriously though, where are they???

EDIT: If the news hounds don't do a front page article on DQ sales though, I might go do one. I'll give em a bit more time.

DQ sales in Japan are insane. You can't go into a game store without seeing ads for it all the time.

Oh, and isn't Breath of Fire Capcom and not Square? Can't really get mad at them for that one.
