Just been looking at the new psp go and wondered what you guys think of it.

My initial reactions are: That the ergonomics look terrible and the designers should either go back to school, or be shot...out of a cannon. But those are just my first impressions. It might handle better than it looks.

What are your thoughts? Even interested? I think i'm gonna ignore future versions until they decide that it 'might' be a good idea to add another slider.

The big issue for me is the whole digital component. I have to respect that they're willing to take the plunge by choosing digital distribution over traditional retail, but honestly, I don't like the idea of only being able to purchase my games online.

There's a lot more that could be said on that, but to cut a long story short, if you buy a game digitally, you don't really own it.

I think Sony's got it wrong with the PSPgo, they're charging a premium for what is basically a downgrade (although they'll never say that, taking away your physical media is a downgrade, especially when the PSP could probably do everything the Go does).

No doubt the games will cost as much as retail UMD's and there'll probably be no way of persistently keeping your games (a la Steams 'my games' list), I hope that's wrong but given Sony's lack of attention to detail recently I think it'll be that once you delete a game, it's gone and you have to pay again.

The ergonomics of it look terrible as well, but that remains to be seen, or rather felt. I think unless the Go comes out costing a goodly chunk less than the standard PSP it's going to bomb horribly. It doesn't have the novelty or fashion factor of the iPhone and it doesn't have Nintendo's level of customer loyalty to steady it in it's first year.

I think that's wrong entirely. Not least because Nintendo have shifted almost as many DS's as Wii's, PS3 and 360's combined. Nevermind the numbers of PSP and iPhones out there.
As a market handhelds are the big one, the DS's dominance keeps drama away but they're where the big sales are.

I think motion sensors will die out once everyone figures out they're rubbish without force feedback.

I don't mind the psp 3000, but I hate the idea of the PsPGo!
It really is a stupid idea. I don't know about you Escapists, but I like being able to own the physical game and not have it transmitted into my psp, until whenever I decided to delete it off the memory storage.

All I'll say about the PSP is this: Let me know when they add a second analog stick.

I agree with you. Unless you back stuff up (and I personally have no idea how you'd back up a PSP. Memory cards maybe?) you'll always have the lingering threat of having something go wrong with the machine and bam, there's your games and stuff gone.

I always prefer to have something tangible, call me old fashioned, but when you can hold it in your hand,I always consider it more reliable.

PLus there's always the chance of credit card fraud as well and that's just a general all around worry. I'm not fully against the new psp, but I think I'll be sticking to my little Slim one.

Does this thing even exist I can't find the damn release date
October apparently? http://www.amazon.com/PSP-Go-Black-Sony/dp/B002BSC55M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1250768270&sr=8-1
But I'm iffy with it. I wish they had included a second thumb nub but am glad they are phasing out UMD's. I just feel bad for all those people with piles of them or who want to play a game that's only on UMD.

Why don't you just burn it out on a cd after you've downloaded it? You have the right to.

Still better than the piece of crap DSi.... though in all fairness, that's like saying dog vomit is better than pig vomit.

So does anyone know whats behind Sony's desire to continually release 'tweaked' versions of the psp rather than a definitive upgrade? This one is more of a revamp (with not much vamp), and seems to include features that people don't really care all that much for.

Ugh...I reckon it looks awful.

I was never really into the PSP anyway, but that really does look naff. Also, the whole "digital only" thing kinda sucks, I think, but then, I'm one of those people who prefers to have a hard copy of everything and anything.

Go back to the drawing board SONY and don't come back until it has two analog sticks and doesn't look like the retarded cousin of the DS.

I dunno, its pre-judgemental but I think the whole PSP thing is a big flop. That style of gaming style died out ages ago. It'll be like bringing out a new gameboy...oh wait.
