This is the place to take our speculations, hopes, fears, and discussion about the new Star Wars MMO.

I personally hope for four things:

Not total emphasis on Jedi. I can't speak for everyone, but seriously, after three "movies" packed full of Jedi and innumerable books and video games with same, I am tired to death of those magicians. I always enjoyed Han and Leia's story in the original trilogy, because they were ordinary, plain old average people (who happened to be apocalyptically good looking, both of them). I truly, deeply hope that I'll get to play as an average dude who makes his own way. What was the quote? Something about how ancient weapons and hokey religions are no match for a blaster...

Ship ownership. The best thing to happen to Star Wars Online was Jump To Lightspeed, which, for the uninitiated, was an expansion set that introduced ship combat and ownership to the game. It was an excellent addition, if you ask me - suddenly, Pilot classes cropped up, people who spent 1/10th of their time on good old terra firma, and so did shipwrights, who exclusively created ships. The economy changed and became far more interesting, the space missions were hella fun, and I want to see that again. I want to play that again.

A variety of planets. I can't tell you how Goddamned tired I am of Kashyyyk, Hoth, Dagobah and Tatooine. Being that it's a KOTOR game, one can only hope that maybe you'll spend some time on other planets, but my God, please keep those four away. If I want to play on one of them, I can just spin up every other Star Wars game in the history of fucking ever.

And finally, please don't let Sony Online Entertainment anywhere near this. Securing the license to a Star Wars MMO should have been a license to print your own money, and SOE still managed to cock it up. That takes a prodigious amount of asshattery.

Your two cents go here!

Dude, of course they'll be in the game. It's a Star Wars game. If they weren't in there, it wouldn't make any sense. But, obviously there will be a huge variety of other planets, so you shouldn't worry about it.

Now, as for me, what I'm most curious about is if there's a huge leaning towards a single faction like with WoW.

For the Sith, anyone?

I'm worried about this myself, I don't want to be a damn Jedi. Space wizards with glowing swords don't appeal too me, but Bounty hunters do.
I'm hoping that you'll be able to balance a party out well enough, if they force everyone to be a Jedi.
I'm hoping for different Jedi builds, someone who focus's more on force buffs rather than offensive powers, or more blasters than sabers.

I'll say I agree with the ship thing, but ship combat might be a bit wonky, I don't want to constantly have to fight off people, I prefer a more singular game so I hate having to deal with people ruining my game. Another thing is houses and the like, It'd be cool to have your own place in a city where you are able to dump your stuff, build a small base, have your own hanger etc. It could add a bit more depth if done right. I think with the personal ship ideas it could be quite cool to feel we have our own stuff, like a real trooper/bounty hunter would, or a jedi/sith would have access to.

Oh and they have to bring back henchmen. I always liked managing my own team, none of this "pick 4 people who you will learn to hate to play this mission" crap, I like my own little world, and don't want others to be able to meddle with my play. Sort of defeats the point of a MMO but I only liked them because there is so much to do, not for socializing.

1. Don't count on it. 95% of people want to be Jedi, so Jedi = money. But I would love it if there was equal attention payed to other classes. Here's hoping for droids!
2. Space battles were damn fun in SWG, but again, don't count on it. Not to begin with, anyway. Expansion pack, HO!
3. From the cinematic released recently it looks like me might have Coruscant, and I think there's a rule somewhere that says every game must have Tatooine, but other than that Bioware'll probably come up with more new planets, or have some old ones from the KOTOR games.
4. After they dropped the ball with SWG, I'm suprised anyone let them near anything ever again.

From what I've been seeing so far, it does look like they're at least trying to balance the classes, so people have reasons to be things other than jedi. I'll probably go Bounty Hunter myself.

If you ever doubt how much fun the ship combat can be, try downloading the Star Wars Galaxies free trial (if SWG even still runs servers). They lumped the ship-based missions and such in with the main game, so you don't need any expansions or anything, and you're free to just fly around and do your own thing.

One of the best parts of Jump To Lightspeed was how big space was. It wasn't EVE large, in that you'd get lost or fly towards a space station for ten minutes before you could dock, but it was big enough that you wouldn't be rubbing shoulders with every other space-goer. The missions are "instanced", in that mission-specific enemies can only be destroyed by whoever has that mission, and PVP is one of those things you need to be flagged for. I can't recall regarding pirates, but I do know that Rebels could only attack flagged Imperials and vice versa.

Also, it was lots of fun to upgrade your ship piece by piece, and eventually get new, multi-seat ships. I fondly recall being asked by some high-level German players if I would come with them and man the guns for a particularily dangerous blockade run, which we barely made by the skin of our teeth. That shit is exciting.

I'm gonna put money on Jedi Guardian (combat), Master (force) and the other one (balanced), and their Sith counterparts all turning up. I also have a theory...

Jedi will be excellent against other Jedi in one-on-one, and reasonable against groups. From what I've seen so far, the non-Force using characters will be the other way round, so you'll need a Jedi or two AND some non-Force using characters to really do well in missions. Whatever happens, I'm playing the Bounty Hunter from that trailer :p

For the Sith! For Chaos!
Death to the Jedi! Death to the light side!
I hope that this game is good but I won't play it unless the subscription fee is either low or lower than WoWs.

If it's worth it's salt from this thread we could start an Escapist bounty hunters guild.
Keep a couple of Jedi around as Coffee boys and we're golden.

I'm in. Although if there's a Smuggler class, that's what I'm choosing, because I have no shame admitting that I am incredibly and irretrievably gay for Han Solo.

Perfectly understandable, had you of said chewbacca I would of had to ban you from the universe for crimes against humanity.

If the game had dogfighting I'd be on it in a skinny minute. I miss that part of Star Wars. The prequels pretty much threw it out the airlock.

That's true for my entire love for the Star Wars universe, now that I think about it. I liked the ships, technical stuff, the big epic ship battles. It's all a WW2 knock-off, I know, but I really dug how they set it all up. Rogue Squadron all the way.

...Holy shit how did I miss that game? Damn it, it sounds fun. If they can make something like what you described then that would be cool, specially if it got to the point where we have our own carrier, fighter, transport and maybe bodyguard ship, all upgraded in different ways, that could be awesome. I like a bit of micro managing so being able to cover my carrier in point defense turrets, a few larger cannons and stuff like that would be awesome.

Looks like Jedi and Sith won't be the only focus.. but still a big focus. I don't think we'll have a culture skewed towards one faction either. For every person who wants to be a Sith, there'll be a Jedi and a Bounty Hunter.
