The new Xbox 360 dashboard looks ridiculous..

I have no real issues with it. Navigation is fine, it looks fine because the Fallout 3 theme I had for the old dashboard works just as well with the new one, avatars are very ignorable since you can just set it up once and never need to touch it again, there's some occasional slowdown but not enough to be a dealbreaker.

Overall, anything bad I had to say about it would be cancelled out by the fact that we can install games to the hard drive. Because of the way I have my setup (all on a tiny desk in a tiny room in university accommodation) the disc noise was a major pain, it seriously ruined the more atmospheric games. Eliminating that was the best thing they could've done.

I find it a toss up. The new layout was a much needed addition, since the old one was just getting too crammed with stuff. The avatars are alright (I can atleast make one that looks like me), but they seem entirely unnecessary -- I haven't seen it do much other than sit on the side of my friends' profiles.

There are two parts that bug me. First, everytime I start or log into XBL, it jumps to their "featured" bullshit. I have an XBox to play games on -- I want it to go to those games. Also, the default white-on-green theme is terrible, even for somebody with good eye sight like me. I don't want to pay good money just to fix the horrendous color scheme that Microsoft forced upon me.

Other than that, it's mostly just a new look. It takes some time to get used to where everything is, but I can still use it all the same, so it's not the end of the world. There are bigger things to complain about (like the Hoover living inside the beast).

Meh. Who cares? I use my Xbox 360 to play games, not hang around on the dashboars.

I've gotten used to it. I thought the old one was functional, but not very slick looking (not that that particularly mattered).

This is a pretty good point.
Though I'm curious what a 'dashboar' is. I'm assuming it's a very fast type of boar.

Seriously, though, it just took getting used to.
I'm used to it now, so I don't care. I can find everything I need to quickly, I like my Mass Effect NXE Theme, and I'd say it's no harder or slower to use then the original blades. Plus, it looks better (Far more modern and 'next gen' then the blades).

Sorry, you lost me right there. I tried to keep reading your post, but after such silly statement as playing "serious games" I just couldn't stop laughing. On topic, I enjoy NXE, but not so much for the aesthetic of it, but for the ability to install games to my hard drive.

Personally, Microsoft earns Epic Fail of the Year for trying to compete with the Wii with the new crappy updates. I would be happy if Party Chats didn't crash every 2 minutes, or if you weren't DEMANDED to make a stupid little avatar, or if maybe I could actually navigate the dashboard without having to use a fucking map.

But in all seriousness, the only thing I liked is the ability to install games on your harddrive.

That is when the article is from, if you have an Xbox, how do you not know what this looks like? What does it matter anyways, do you spend hours on end cruising the dashboard? I didn't think so.

The avatars suck, they have a severe lack of customisation compared to the Miis which you can make into just about anything with a bit of creativity. Also, the avatars all look like total douchebags no matter what features you put on them. The avatar doesn't even show up unless you're on the dashboard and then it takes 5 minutes just to load it so they're completely useless.

Avatars don't bother me too much, and it hasn't been much of a detractor for me.

Big points in my book for streaming Netflix, HD installs of games, and party chat. I'm generally happy with the nuts and bolts of how it's set up now, though would like more customization abilities on backgrounds and avatars.

As long as I can still play my games, I really don't care what the dashboard looks like. I don't spend my time there. I spend my time killing things.

Heres what I think:
If something isn't broken, there is no need to fix it. Apparently, Microsoft doesen't get this.
The old Dashboard (Albeit not too pretty) was functional and pretty fast to boot. Now I get multiple lags. Was giving up functionality for stylized visuals really worth it?
Also, I can care less about the Avatars. Nintendo did it first, and they weren't very interesting then either.
