So now that we all have had time to recover from Bioshock Infinite, I think it's time to discuss what Irrational Games should do for their next Bioshock game. Let's just assume there will even be one for the matter of this thread.

My two cents:
So we have already had two elements, water and air. The next game could use earth, for example being set in a city inside a mountain (think the Mines of Moria) or an old mining complex. As for the themes, that's more tricky. Rapture was all about strong political ideals and objectivism, and Infinite was about religion and American exceptionalism. There's obviously a plethora of interesting and important topics to handle, but I'd really like to see it bring up the problem with ethics in science, but without making it a "scientists are evil" game.

EDIT: Or disregarding the elements idea (water, air, earth), it would be really cool to have it being set in a city on the moon. It could be a universe where the Apollo program never ended. I think the bioshock artstyle we've come to love would work wonders in a setting like that.

Whenever people talk about the next Bioshock they always say the same thing: Underground or in space.
Personally, I think the next one could take place in an active volcano.
I don't really have an idea of the undertones it would have but you have a pretty good idea there.

To be fair, Bioshock and Infinite didn't really say that poiltics and religion were evil either. What they did was show the evils that come from taking those things to their extremes, which I'm sure they would have no problem building a story around. That's what I like about Bioshock games: They make you think but they don't step on anybody's toes.
Well, I guess I can't say that for certain, I'm sure SOME jimmies were rustled but if there were, nobody's saying anything.

Or maybe they could put it on or inside a volcano?
Using the volcano as a power source would explain why someone built a city there. It would also function as an obvious hazard.

Of course, but still the topics were about the things I listed. I'm sure they could take ethics in science to the extreme without stepping on anyones toes, as you say.

Well...I think they kind of wrote themselves into a corner with Infinite....I mean....You already did Rapture and then Columbia....I mean...where else could you build a city without making you look like your grasping out straws? A volcanoe...that is kind of pushing it. Space? System Shock....ya...I think they shouldn't do another BioShock and just leave off on Infinite's high note. I am sure Irrational Games have more ideas in their magical hat that don't have anything to do with BioShock.

Didn't Rapture cover that? "The scientist will not be bound by petty morality", ADAM resulting from unchecked experiments with the sea slugs and all stuff?

I find it kinda funny that the game that focuses on infinite possibilities is often criticized for writing the series into a possible dead end. Starting to think
"A lighthouse, a man, a city" was Irrational saying they're running out of ideas instead of the commentary on series with recurring themes(like Final Fantasy and Tales of) it was meant to be.

You're right, they did cover that somewhat. But I didn't feel it was the main topic of the game.

Wasn't necessarily criticizing it, and I actually kind of thought the exact opposite that maybe this was Irrational's way of setting the stage for future Bioshock games to come....but ironically enough, just like the game Bioshock Infinite itself, that entire scene can be taken, seen, and discussed in both ways.
