Please tell me how to get Vampire the Masquerades running. Since pretty much everyone who does play game says to instal the unofficial patch.

L4D said my graphics card is shit that's not what I was trying to play offline, and I need credentials to play my games?

I would say it's more like running out of gas and seeing how far you can go. It's not that I didn't want to update, my windows update disappeared so I couldn't and I have no idea how to fix it. I think me attempting to fix it cause the problem I'm having now but I got 2 years of no PC hassle (just Steam hassle).

I'm not saying PCs are terrible (though they do hate me, I think they're great if you put the time and effort into them) I'm saying if you think PCs are the solution for everyone you're being dense. I've pretty much proven I'm PC retarded, so why would a PC be better than a console for me?
Vampire the Masquerades is a mess. If it was a console game it never would have been released at all, it barely got released on PC. They just printed the disc of a barely finished game and gave it virtually no support.

(1) Before you do anything you need your system to be in basic running order

(2) recognise you do not yet have the knowledge base to start tinkering or judging wether a file you get of the internet is infested with viruses or not

Just buy it on Gog

http://www.gog.com/gamecard/vampire_the_masquerade_redemption

That's why gog exists, it just works. I don't care if you already own the game after you bought it for pennies off ebay, you bought a version that doesn't damn work and any solution is beyond your CURRENT skill level.

Do the effort of learning, or pay the piper. It's $6 and you're voting with your wallet for the game.
Malwarebytes and Spybot came back clean, I used the site 3 different forums recommenced and other people used it first. I'm not downloading terabytes of porn either. I have patched games before, but that was before the days of DRM. I even had it running before the official patch updated again.

No.

And that's a loaded question which makes it out I ever said that.

Use the quote feature to quote me DIRECTLY and dive non leading questions. This is forum etiquette 101.
I was using the etiquette to keep the post from becoming a bloated mess on a PC elitist that doesn't understand some people are terrible with computers.

I would say this is like a celibate priest giving sex tips... for you to make up analogies of what you know little about. Not knowing computers is nothing to be ashamed of. The problem is you don't know your limits. And you limits don't stop you using computers or from playing PC games, they stop you trying to use risky hack solutions where you are open to exploitation, trolls sending you to virus links.

You can start making up analogies when you have a much deeper understanding of computers. That will come with time.
You can make up analogies when you come up with better analogies. A computer running broken software is not a car running out of oil and toasting it. The hardware still works and clean out the software the computer will work. The same way a car with no gas won't run but if you add that it runs. If you ruin the tires, you need new hardware.

I seriously doubt it was that simple. We outsource to schools and businesses, we manage HUNDREDS of computers that run continuously for YEARS and Windows Update feature doesn't just spontaneously "disappear". Mind you, we do get a lot of customers who claims such things, then it turns out they aren't telling the whole story...
Well if I knew the whole story I'd share it, I'm actually confused myself as to why that happened. It was so long ago I forgot the details of what I was doing when it happened (but it wasn't downloading shady files like you keep jumping to, I'm not that stupid).

That's a serious Windows error, this works for almost all serious windows errors:

(1) Back up files to an external hard drive,
(2) reinstall windows,
(3) install anti-virus in your fresh install
(4) run scan of files on external hard drive
(5) copy back over
(5b) keep external hard drive as... your backup. That you should have.

It's also good to do this in general, it clears out all the crap and most console operating systems do similar things with major updates.

(A) And don't download anything from any shady websites unless you know EXACTLY what you are doing.

)B) Always keep ALL your programs up to date. Other than downloads from shady websites, it's the vulnerabilities in your legit programs that are closed with - you guessed it - updates. Don't go more than a few days of any update coming out without installing it.

Follow points A and B and you likely won't ever have to reinstall windows.
Well that's handy, I usually cleared off the whole thing since I keep everything backed up on an external harddrive (which I scan for viruses as well).

That's a bit rich for you to say that after the story you've told me. You have broken some basic rules, rules most people can follow just like most people can operate a car.
That's not even half of the things I did to my PC, you would cringe in horror at the things I did and I know I'm not at the level to be doing those things. To go to your car analogy, it's not that I can't run a car, it's that when something goes wrong I try to fix it myself instead of taking it in so it becomes a metal death trap held together by duct tape and elmers glue until it ultimately explodes. Then I start fresh. I still think my point still stands: PCs aren't for everyone.

You also seem to have the wrong idea about me and updates, I don't hate them I prefer to control when their updating (the two years was because of that issue, I usually update weekly). For example when I was complaining about Skyrim, I like to not have it update automatically so I can wait for my mods to be confirmed to work with it and update them all at the same time so the new update doesn't break anything.

I try to help you and you call me that...

I should never have bothered, knowing I'd get ungrateful insults in return.
When did I ask for help? Also if you're trying helping someone you don't act condescending about it, not to mention at every turn you're practically insulting me thinking I'm download crap off shady sites and how installing a patch is above my level.

I don't think you have any right to be insulted from being educated on what you admit you don't know enough about and are above your level. I haven't insulted you, I've spun this bad situation in the best possible way to preserve your pride.

You're telling me your problem and elaborating that you don't know what to do, who does that then reacts angrily when help is offered.

My preferences with game genre combined with multi-platform AAA releases and indies being primarily on smartphone or PC means I can get by as (only) a member of the Glorious Master Race. Seriously since I had to dump my PS2 in uni I've missed maybe 2 games on console that I really regret. Then a couple of console exclusive series started, and consequently if they were successful got ported anyway. So I missed Assassin's Creed and Gears of War, but if I really wanted to I could get some/all of them on PC now.

Solution: No consoles (muahaha)

No the horror would be editing the registry and using the command prompt to create services, which I will admit is above my level. A patch is not above anyone's level if they can read.

Because you haven't paid attention to the entire conversation.

As for my PC issues there is a giant clusterfuck of a story behind how that happened (and other weird things), I'm just going wipe everything and start fresh. If you're wondering it was the effect of my trying to fix my missing Windows Update service (which I did get working).
I said I have no idea, because even though I wouldn't be able to do it again without another 3 hours of googling and like I said even though I got that working got different, which is probably because I was attempting something above my level, creating a missing service. If you want to say I asked for help, I asked for help with a svchost.exe memory leak and me fixing the missing windows update was the cause of it.

Not to mention I already said I'd be resetting everything so you didn't give me any new advice and continue to act like I don't know anything.

Software updates are pretty standard on anything these days, including consoles lol. I've been told by many people how much of a pain it is when the PS3 gets a firmware update.
I have a couple of PCs that I think it is Steam trying to update my video drivers. I either click "no" or, in windows hide update. Something of which to be weary. Those updates broke my machine till uninstalled every time.

Also, I still don't get what you mean by not being able to play games offline.
Buddy of mine says he couldn't play Portal offline. I have the Spellforce series and others that require logins to WiiU and Xbox Live: those need a connection and no firewall blocking. I don't think things like Saints Row the Third has anything like that. I'll have to try playing it offline just for grins, see what happens. I may just get a message reading it can't upload or download to the "cloud" which is fine.

I do have STEAM and games installed on multiple machines. If I leave one on, online, and logged into Steam but have gone to a 2nd machine for some reason to play there instead (happens, especially when my daughter needs my super computer for her homework) all that happens is the first machine logs off and I can play just fine on the 2nd computer.

It is an amazing, cheap service. I hope this is affordable or that the PS4 has a similar capability of streaming PC games:

Have you heard of this? Interested? J-e-f-f-e-r-s makes a lot of good points about the android consoles splintering users with constant updates, but this should be good for awhile as its best part depends on what PC quality you are streaming from.
